Gloucestershire Schools Cheltenham District Championships.
St Edwards School. Charlton Kings - Friday 18th November 2016.

The Gloucestershire Schools District Cross Country Champs took place again at St Edwards School in Charlton Kings. This is a well known location for this event with a long steep hill, to tackle at least once, depending on age groups. Although difficult it is a very good course, that certainly tests all who run.

We again had runners involved competing for the Cotswold and Chipping Campden Schools with the top twelve in each the Minor (Yr7), Junior (Yr 7&8), Inter (Yr 9&10) and Senior (Yr 11&12) age groups qualifying for the finals and the next four places qualifying as reserves.

In the Inter Girls Emily Field, Gabby Jones and Charlotte Foster all ran their best races to date finishing 2nd, 9th and 10th respectively. Emily did own up to having to walk a little up the steepest slope due to pushing so hard on the rest of the course but with being the youngest in the age group this year after finishing 8th last year, I am sure we can forgive her. Gabby improved on 26th last year as did Charlotte who was 16th, last year. Impressive.

Rosie Mutsaars again showed her class with a superb run for 3rd place in the senior girls, last year she was 4th in the Inter girls.

Isabel Barnett and Ella Davies have been running well in training and did well for 23rd and 37th.

Louis Mutsaars did miss a great deal of summer training due to cricket and with also moving up to the Junior boys did very well for 21st place.

We did have a few other runners taking part and will add their positions once confirmed.

Gloucestershire XC League Round 2.

Saturday 5th November 2016.

The second round of the Gloucestershire Cross Country League took place at Blackbridge, Gloucester on a cold but most importantly dry and sunny day. The Bourton Roadrunner Juniors were well supported by a variety of new and more experienced runners who all performed extremely well on the day.

The U11 course was quite long at around 2.5km, but was fortunately quite flat and all the runners managed it with relative ease. The U13’s ran approximately 4.3km and the 15/17’s approximately 4.3km.

Other News - September & October 2016.

In September, Christopher Hunt took part in the challenging Hever Castle Triathlon, which comprised of a 200m lake swim, 5K off-road bike ride and 2K run. He had a particularly strong run, finishing 19th out of 299 for the run course. On Saturday 15th October, he competed for the South Warwickshire Schools team at the inter-area cross country race at Kineton (having previously qualified at the inter-schools event with 9th place). After a blistering start he ran a determined race, holding onto a very creditable 14th place.

Maria ran in the Warwickshire Schools Primary School Cross Country on the 15th October 2016 at Charlcote Park over approximately 1500m. Maria came and excellent 3rd in the year six girls race.

Gloucestershire XC League Round 1.
Little Rissington _ Bourton Roadrunners.

Saturday 15th October 2016.

Bourton Road Runners Juniors embarked on a new cross country season today taking part in the first round of the Gloucestershire League at a new venue kindly hosted by Norm and Alison Lane of our own club Bourton Road Runners. This was proper cross country conditions, hills, lots of twists and turns, uneven ground and fantastic competition all it lacked was lots of mud and rain but we were all please the weather was kind to us. The numbers running were one of the biggest ever.

The under 11 boys got the day of too flying start with some fine runs from Bourton. A very competitive race with the top 40 all within 2 minutes of each other.  Lysander Tarrant has come of age today with an excellent 8th and very well pushed by the ever improving George Quli just behind in 10th in fact the top 10 were all so close to each other. Good to see Charlie Astor racing again for us in a very good 20th and just behind a great battle between Sean Farley 23rd, Henry Everett 24th and Edward Jones in 25th, great packing. Arthur Fletcher as ever gave 100% in 30th and a star in the making Michael Astor in 31st. Arthur Quli was next in 35th, Dominic Luff in 39th, Peter Fletcher in 48th and Noah Williams in a fine 54th. A lot of these boys are still well under 11 so great things to follow. In the team event the boys are 2nd, 6th, 7th and 11team.

The star of the day has to be Kan Ikeda in the boys under 13 race and very happy but sad day for us all. Delighted that he won the race in style, always out in front but locked in battle for the top spot but Kan wanted it more, he has been improving week by week over the summer and he has shown hard work pays off in the end. He won in sprint finish to win by 1 second! Sad because this is his last race for our club as he and his sister (Koumi under 17) are going back home to Japan next weekend after 2 years with us. A pleasure to have known them and their parents. Louis Mutsaars is coming back to form with a fine run in 25th in this very competitive field. A god race between James Mace 27th, Jago Tarrant 28th and Connor McGuiness 29th gave us good packing again in the team race. Finnen McNiffe had a solid run in 43rd as did George Farley in 45th. In the team event the boys are 5th and 8th team.

The under 15 boys have to race with the under 17 boys on what was a very tough and demanding course. This was true test of character and both Jake Astor 15th and Harvey Sawyer 22nd really toughed it out in fine runs.

The under 11 girls were next away and they were led home by a fine run from Abigail Barnett in 22nd, Olivia McMorris is gaining in confidence every race to finish in an excellent 25th. They were well backed up by Ella Grey in 37thand Maite Capper in 39th. The girls are 9th in the team race, a good solid start to their campaign.

The under 13 girls had a good team out today on a tough course with a nasty hill half way round. But Helena West made it look easy giving as ever 110% in very good top 10 run and with plenty more to come. Lauren Farley produced the race today we knew she had in her with a fine 14th and again with more to come. Isobel is returning to her best again with a very strong 26th today and Celia Darwent makes it look easy as she glides over the tough terrine in a good 40th today. The girls are 6th team.

Emily Field was our only under 15 girl today as a number were away but what a run on the same course and distance as the boys in a fine 5th, again after a good summers training Emily is improving week by week, one to watch as the season progresses.

The under 17 girl’s race was very competitive but our girls battled very well. In her last race for us Koumi Ikeda finished on a high note in 8th position, we will miss her a lot as I am sure all her teams’ mates will including Gabby Jones in a very strong run today in 11th, as Gabby adds stamina to her natural speed she will become unstoppable soon.

A good day was had by all and thank you once again to our hosts Norm and Ali Lane.

Bourton One Mile Challenge.
Saturday 16th July 2016.

The Bourton One Mile Challenge took place on July 16th at 6pm. The race has grown over the years to now have become a major event and it is also part of the Gloucestershire Road Race series.

There were over 150 runners with Bourton Juniors out in force. There were two races, the county race and the fun run in perfect conditions.

In the under 15 boys county race Kan Ikeda ran with real purpose tonight and after a good season of strong results and training he showed what a good runner he has become by taking the gold medal and smashed his personal best to record 5mins 20secs, he has become a valuable member of our club and we will miss when he returns to Japan in the autumn.

Once again Chris Hunt showed what a solid and consistent performer he is with a silver medal tonight in 6mins 22seecs. He was pushed hard by the every improving Arthur Fletcher as the boys took the clean sweep as he took the bronze medal in 6mins 27secs,a personal best. His brother Peter once again pushed him very hard in a fantastic family battle to take 4th in 6mins 32
secs, a personal best. George Quli very sportingly paced his brother for the first ¾ of the race and still finished 6th with a fine sprint finish in 6mins 59secs.

In the girls under 15 county race Isabel Kiey Thomas good form continues with a fantastic run betting many rivals to take the gold medal in 5mins 37secs, a personal best, beating most of adults as well ! She was pushed very hard by Emily Field who makes it look so easy, wonderful flowing style to take a well-deserved silver medal in 5mins 38secs, a personal best. Charlotte Foster is such a determined runner as she always digs deep with a fine 5th today in 6mins 7secs. Gaby Jones who on the track is a real speed merchant showed also she has plenty of stamina with a good 7th today in 6mins 9secs, a personal best. Good to see Helena West racing well again in 8th today in a personal best of 6mins 20secs. What a good battle she had with Koumi Ikeda who was just neaten on the line into 9th in 6mins 21secs and like her brother we will be very sad when she leaves us in the autumn, she has been a great asset to our club and a very important member of the team. Isobel Barnett also had a fantastic run finishing 10th in 6mins 40secs as did her sister Abigail Barnett in12th in a personal best of 7mins 1secs and this is well as both of them running a 5k in the
morning! The girls are becoming a very strong team.

In the fun the girls dominated the top positions. Darcy Thompson held on the 2nd position well during the race as she had Isabel Dennett within touching distance for the whole race, it was a great battle but Darcy just hung on in a personal best of 7mins 5secs. Isabel could not have tried harder to claim 3rd also in a personal best of 7mins 7secs. Nell Ash is growing in confidence every race with a fine 4th today in 7mins 26secs. A very good team in the making.

The boys were out in force today as they dominated the race. What a run by Connor McGuinness- Dean as he finished 2nd beaten by a boy much older than him and an amazing time of 6 min 8secs beating many in the county race. In his first race for the club Jamie Terroda- Taylor showed what potential he has with a fine 3rd today in 6mins 30secs.  Sean Farley ran a massive personal best today of nearly 1 minute which is a huge distance in a mile race he also came 4th in 6mins 37secs. Edward Jones also dug in well to
finish 7th in a personal best of 7 mins 4secs and he just pipped George Farley in a photo finish who also had the same time in 8th also a personal best, I think George also has plenty more to come. Arthur Quli has fine running genes and he is starting to show them in a very good 9th today in 7mins 11secs. In a few years as these girls and boys get older and stronger they will all be in the top end of the county races as long as they keep training as well as they are now.

Other News for July 2016.

Kan Ikeda broke the Campden School record for the Year 7 1500M at Sports Day breaking a record held for nearly 35 years. His time was 5:12. Emily Field also won the 1500M and 800M and Gabby Jones won the 1500M in her year group.

Louis Mutsaars and Isabel Kiey Thomas represented the club in the 800 metres at the Prince of Wales Stadium at Cheltenham in an open graded meeting on the 13th July. They were both seeded in the 5th race and Louis Mutsaars came first in 2:35.46 and Isabel Kiey-Thomas came third in 2:37.89.

Norm's Family Day.
Kestrel Barn, Little Rissington. Sunday 10th July 2016.

Norman Lane ran a Family Day at Kestrel Barn in Little Rissington for Bourton Roadrunner's members. This included a Fun Run over approximately one mile followed by a relay. The adult and junior runners all ran together in the fun run and relays with all winning prizes, including trophies, sweets. There was a BBQ with tasty Burgers and Hot Dogs after the races and several members stayed on for a game of rounders afterwards.

A big thank you to Norm and his family for laying on such a great event and there is talk of another one in August.

All junior members who took part were awarded one point in the Race Champ Competition.

Sherborne Fun Run.
Sunday 26th June 2016.

This now annual event is becoming bigger and bigger on the demanding course through Sherborne Woods and this year it was also very muddy so even harder, and Bourton Juniors once again dominated the races

Dylan Williams the defending boys champion came back to defend his title, however by half way he was in 2nd making the mistake not to wear spikes slowed him up the hills, but on the run into home his natural ability came through as he seemed to change gear and hit the front in the last quarter, however he was pushed very hard all the way to win by 2 seconds and still be boys champion.

In the Under 11 boys race Joe Tilley- Loughrey is becoming a very good runner after a good winter and the rewards are now coming with a very good win today, taking a very good 3nd spot was Toby Sellek who is also now coming through the ranks well, George Farley pushed him hard to claim a very good 4th, a very good team in the making.

In the Under 10 boys race George Quli picked up his first race win today with a fine run, plenty more race wins in the future here also. Malachy Jones ran very strongly to finish on the podium in 3rd. Arthur Fletcher puts 100% effort into his running with a fine 5th today

The Under 9 race was very competitive with Sean Farley just missing out on the top spot by a runner’s vest but an excellent 2nd today. Peter Fletcher ran as determined as ever to finish very strongly in 4th and making up a very good team was Edward Jones who ran well in 6th today.

The Under 7 boys also put in a good showing today with Charlie Astor taking the top spot in a  fine run but was pushed well by the ever improving Arthur Quli in 3rd position some fine runs by all of junior boys, plenty of promise for the future as long as they keep up the training.

In the Girls race Emily Field showed how much she has improved this year by becoming the girl’s champion, in fact she led the whole race past half way with her excellent tactics; she seems to flow over the surface with very little effort, a well-deserved win. Isabel Kiey Thomas pushed Emily all the way in a well fought race her time will come very soon but an excellent 2nd today. To give the girls the clean sweep Charlotte Foster took 3rd spot, Charlotte is always very consistent and so strong. Good to see Lauran Farley running to her full potential today in a fine run, lots of potential here to finish 4th. Gabby Jones ran well today and as ever putting her all in to finish 5th today, good to see Isobel Hartley racing again after a break in a very good 6th.  Emily Williams is going from strength to strength as her fitness grows to take 7th and Helena West proberly the most determined runner in the field came in well in 8th, what a team performance, we had he top 8. Eleonore Gilbert is returning after an on-going injury battled round very well to take a very good 11th spot.

In the Under 11 girls Darcy Thompson was very close to the top spot today as she finished in 2nd today with a bit more training she will hit the top, Freya Gilbert was close behind as she also finished on the podium in a strong 3rdspot

In the Under girls 10 race Isabel Dennett hit the front from the gun and nobody could catch her as she stormed to her first race in in great style.

The same can be said for Annabella Williams with so much potential in the coming years she ran from the front to win in style in the Under 9 girl’s race.

Yet another win for the girls in the Under 8 race with a storming run from Olivia Goodwill to win in great style and well backed up by the very stylish Tilly Sellek in 5th spot.

Oxford City AC Midweek Open Graded Meeting.
25th May 2016.

All races at these graded events are seeded according to recent PBs, which gives athletes the opportunity to challenge themselves that little bit more against those of a similar ability. Isabel Kiey-Thomas was seeded into the first of two 1500m races, in a field of fifteen athletes of mixed sexes & ages. She set off strongly, leading the field for half a lap, then settled back into the pack before the end of the first lap. In the second lap the field started to spread out considerably, with Izzy maintaining 6th position. On the bell lap she moved up a gear and started closing down on those ahead of her, moving up to fifth, then eventually closing down the only girl ahead of her with a strong sprint to finish in fourth place overall, first female athlete in a time of 5.18.57, just outside her PB.

The next meeting in this series is on 22nd June.

Cheltenham Harriers also run graded meetings; these take place over four Wednesday evenings in July at the Prince of Wales Stadium, with track & field events split across these weeks. Entries are taken in advance, or on the evening of the event, the lowest age group is Under 13.

Northleach 10k & Fun Run.
Sunday 22nd May 2016.

This was the first year that we have included the Northleach Fun Run in our Race Champ Competition and it will certainly be included again next year, if run. An all terrain course that starts and finishes at Northleach Primary School with a few steep climbs followed by a downhill finish, back to the school. This year the course was quite muddy in parts with Christopher Hunt loosing a shoe in a very muddy section.

There was a good showing from Bourton Roadrunner Juniors.

1 Mile Fun Run & 4k Cross Country County Race.
Plock Court- Saturday 19th March 2016.

On Saturday 19th March 2015 the Severn 4k Cross Country County Championships took place at Plock Court Gloucester.

Before though a junior’s race took place, this is good experience for our juniors as they prepare to move up to the youth/adult races. Once again Bourton dominated the races. In the Under 13 boys event  Harvey Sawyer went out hard from the gun but Connor McGuinness – Dean slowly wound him back and at the half way point moved into the lead and slowly opened up a good gap , but Harvey did not give up and he slowly recovered his form and clawed his way back and in the finishing straight found some more energy and just managed to pip Connor on the line to win the race , a very exiting race and as one spectator said it was “ more exacting than the Grand National”, well done to both of them and it was heard under Connors breath “ I will get him next time”. Racing machine Chris Hunt won the Under 11 boys race well in a fine run. Arthur Quli pushed him hard to take 2nd spot, plenty more to come here and they were well backed up by William Cartlidge in 4th he has fine running pedigree in the family.

In the girls Under 11 race Isabel Dennett led from the start and gave a master class in front running, she did not panic but controlled the race from the front to take her first race win and I am sure there will be plenty more to follow. She was pressed hard by Celia Darwent who was always in touching distance and took a very good 2nd spot, lots of race wins here also to follow.

In the county race some of the juniors moved up to the adult’s race and all coped very well with the longer distance and stronger competition. In the ladies race Issy Kiey Thomas is growing in experience and strength and this showed today as she won the Under 17 County Gold Medal and was also part of the Ladies Gold Medal Team. Also good to see Gaby Jones returning to form after illness to win the Silver under 17 Medal and also be part of the Ladies Gold Medal Team.

It was good to see Daniel Bufton back racing again between his football commitments to take the Gold under 17 Medal and this was despite shoe problems and cramp he was also part of the Men’s Gold Medal Team.

Gloucestershire Primary Schools Cross Country Championships.
Newent- Saturday 19th March 2016.

The Primary School Cross Country Championships took place at Newent School over a very good undulating course of approximately 1.8km. Nine different regions, run their own district Championships to make a team of their twelve best runners to compete for their region, in the finals.

Chris Hartley, one of the Bourton Roadrunner's leaders again managed the North Cotswold team which also included several Bourton Roadrunner Juniors who managed to be selected from the North Cotswold District Championships in February at Moreton Fire College.

In the U11 girls competition Abigail Barnett and Jasmine Gabriel ran extremely well for 16th and 38th respectively, out of a total of 90 runners, helping the North Cotswolds team to 5th place overall.

The U11 boys did extremely well with a superb 3rd place overall and Bronze Medals for all in the team with very good performances by Beau Griffin 9th, Joe Davidson 13th, Joe Tilley-Loughrey 27th, Lysander Tarrant, George Quli 30th, Toby Sellek 59th and Charlie Phipps 67th.

Well done to you all.

Also a big thank you to the oraniser's as a great course and extremely well run and a big thank you to Di Clarke.

Cross Country Inter-Counties Championships 2016.
Birmingham- Saturday 12th March 2016.

The Inter Counties took place again at Cofton Park over a very demanding, undulating course with the best runners from each county, competing against each other. Runners are selected from each county based on their performances for their county, although many are chosen from each counties cross country Championships that usually takes place in January.

Several members ran well at the Gloucestershire County Championships at Coleford in December and were then picked to run for Gloucestershire team at Birmingham.

In the U13's girls Isabel Kiey-Thomas and Lauren Farley who had a late call up, ran extremely well as this was their first time running this event and with over three hundred runners in the race, was a very new experience for both. Isabel who has had a great season again ran well with an excellent 178th place. Lauren who has been suffering most of the season with injury but has shown glimpses of what she is capable of, did well for 289th.

Kan Ikeda had been performing extremely well all season until he twisted his ankle, playing football a few weeks before the competition and it was not certain if he could run. His ankle improved and he decided to run and started towards the back of the field, but after finding no major discomfort gradually moved up through the field to finish a very respectable 239th out of 311 runner's in the U13 boys competition.

Kan's sister Koumi ran for the second year, but this time in the U15 girl's race and did well for 282nd.

Its great to see Rosie enjoying her running again and showing her true potential with an excellent 150th place in the U17 girls.

Bourton Roadrunner Juniors 2015 Awards Presentation.
Leisure Centre - Tuesday 23rd February 2016.

Previously the Junior Awards Presention took place just before Christmas but as now many of the awards are now based on attendance and race results, we decided it was better to run the results from January to December annually, than December to November, as in previous years.

Norman Lane, President and original founder of the Club presented the Awards at the Leisure Centre.

The Athlete of the Year a Athlete of the Year Runner Up Trophies were given to the members who accumulated the most points based on, improvements in performance from the current year, compared to the previous year, over four different periods. Attendance on Tuesday night training sessions and supporting the club in races.

The boy and the girl with the highest number of points won the Athlete of the Year Trophy.

This years winners were Emily Field and Christopher Hunt.

The runners up were;  Isobel Kiey-Thomas, Kan Ikeda, Annabella Williams, Arthur Fletcher, Dylan Williams, George Quli, Isobel Barnett, Lauren Farley, Abigail Barnett, Beau Griffin, Helena West, Lysander Tarrant, Charlotte Foster, Gabby Jones, Sean Farley, Peter Fletcher and Isabel Dennett.

A decision was made for the Jack Oaky Trophy to be presented to the member with the highest number of points who had not previously won the Trophy before. Norman Lane who knew Jack well mentioned that Jack liked to give out awards when somebody did well, but seldom gave it to the same person twice, prefering to share between all, if they did well. We decided that we wanted to continue this tradition in his memory. Chris Hunt had won the trophy before and Louis Mutsaars who had worked extremely hard all season and was the member with the second highest number of points this year was a worthy winner.

Our final presentation was for the Race Champ Competition. Points are given to selected races throughout the year with the number of points given, based on the importance of the race. Members can put races forward for consideration but they must be suitable for all junior age groups. All Gloucestershire Cross Country League Races are included as it the Country Champs (All Counties). We also try to include local Fun Run's that are suitable.

This years winners were; Emily Field, Kan Ikeda, Christopher Hunt, Gabby Jones, Louis Mutsaars, Koumi Ikeda, Edward Jones, Isabel Dennett, Abigail Barnett, Isabel Kiey-Thomas, Isobel Barnett, Toby Sellek, Helena West, George Quli, Annabella Tallis, Rosie Mutsaars, Annabella Williams, Sean Farley, Arthur Fletcher and Peter Fletcher.

Well done to all winners and a big thank you to Norman Lane for presenting the Trophies and a big thank you to the Leisure Centre for allowing us to use the venue.

Gloucestershire Cross Country League - Round 4
Warwick University- Saturday 20th February 2016.

The final round of the Gloucestershire Cross Country League took place at Warwick University  near Kenilworth on Saturday 20th February. This was the first time the venue was used and the course was undulating and quite demanding with several tough climbs.
On the day, the club  was missing several  of its quicker runners through  illness or injury,  and were a little worried whether the team’s could hold on to the positions they we were in, going in to the final round. The U11 boys and U13 boys were in 3rd place and the U13 girls were in 2nd place.

Those who ran on the day did extremely well and not only did they hold on the positions, but the U11 girls actually came first on the day, moving up to third place overall. Abigail Barnett was our first runner home in 5th place with one of her best runs to date. At only 9 years old and with another two years in this age group , somebody certainly to watch for the future. She was well supported by the improving Maria Watkins in 9th place and Celia Darwent in 15th place. The U11 girls were also well supported by Freya Gilbert 20th, Nell Ash 21st, Isabel Dennett 27th and Tilly Sellek 30th.

The U11 boys were missing several of their quicker runners and were certainly at risk of missing out on the team’s current  third place. George Quli ran extremely well for 11th place followed by two of our younger runners, with Sean Farley in 23rd and Edward Jones in 25th place.  Sean and Edward are both only 8 years old and even George has another year in this age group, impressive. These runners were well supported by Arthur Fletcher 27th, Arthur Quli 34th and Peter Fletcher 36th. With Arthur Quli up to until a few days before, just 6 years old and Peter only 8 years old, these younger runners are certainly an exciting prospect for next years U11 competition.  They held on to third place overall.

With the U13 girls in  2nd place they would certainly have to run well on the day to hold on to this excellent position. They all did extremely well on the day with Isabel Kiey-Thomas 7th, Helena West 14th, Lauren Farley 17th,   and Isobel Barnett 23rd . The team managed a very good  3rd on the day but more importantly, held on to 2nd in the overall competition.

With Kan Ikeda missing through injury and with the worry of getting a team of three runners out on the day, the U13’s boys current third place overall was certainly in jeopardy. Louis Mutsaars led the team home in 9th with Harvey Sawyer  and Johnny Walling running well for 18th and 19th. They managed 4th on the day but still held onto 3rd overall.

With Emily Field missing through illness and Koumi Ikeda also missing the U15 Girls were unable to field a team on the day, but improving Gabby Jones ran well on the day for 10th and Charlotte Foster was doing well until she had to pull out with an injury. With the U15 girls managing to put out teams in only two of the four races, they did not qualify for a team finish.

Rosie Mutsaars is certainly enjoying her racing again and this showed with a superb 2nd place on the day moving her up to 3rd overall and an Individual Bronze Medal in the U17 girls competition.

North Cotswold Primary School District Championships.
Fire College, Moreton-in-Marsh- Wednesday 10th February 2016.

The Gloucestershire Primary Schools North Cotswolds District Cross Championships took place at Moreton Fire College as in previous years on Wednesday 10th February. The course was relatively flat and approximately 1500 metres long. After all the recent heavy rain, there were a few boggy areas that made the going tough, especially those not using spikes.

The top twelve runners in the girls and the boys race all qualify to race for the North Cotswolds team  in the Gloucestershire Primary Schools County Championships at Newent in March. The next four runner's qualify as reserves. There is always strong Competition in the finals from the other regions, with the top three individuals and teams in each race winning medals. Chris Hartley will again be the North Cotswolds manager.

Again there was a strong showing from the Bourton Roadrunner Juniors with Abigail Barnett and Beau Griffin both running extremely well for 2nd place. Even more impressive is that Abigail is still only year 4 and Beau is only year 5. Joe Tilley-Loughrey 3rd, Joseph Davidson 6th, Lysander Tarrant 7th, Charlie Phipp 10th and Toby Sellek 11th all qualify to run in the team with Freya Gilbert, George Quli and Finley Davies qualifying  as reserves.

Sophie Finlay 22nd, Isabel Dennett 25th, Nell Ash 27th  and Tilly Sellek, still only 7 years old  came 52nd in the girls race.
Alfie Griffin 17th, Max Ramsay 18th, Will Tallis 35th, George Farley 36th, Sean Farley 44th, Oliver Allport 48th, Arthur Fletcher 49th, Edward Jones 54th, and Peter Fletcher came 96th  in the boys race.

All the runners did extremely well with several suffering or recovering from the many cold's going around. Always a problem at this time of year.

South West Inter-Counties Schools Cross Country Championships.
Pitville, Cheltenham- Saturday 6th February 2016.

Luckily the Schools South West Finals took place at Pitville in Cheltenham, almost our home course as many of our runners know the course well from the Gloucestershire Cross Country League. It also saved a long drive to the likes of Cornwall, Devon or Somerset where this event can take place.

Unfortunately the weather was awful with high winds and heavy rain and with the amount of rain we have already had, some of the course was underwater and much of the course resembled a building site with thick mud everywhere, which got worse with every race.

Due to the weather conditions, the numbers were down with only the bravest, most committed runners taking part. The going was extremely tough.

All our runners who took part did extremely well with Lauren Farley managing 61st in the Minor Girls, Rosie Mutsaars 32nd in the Intermediate girls and Kan Ikeda 10th in the Minor Boys helping Gloucestershire Schools take 2nd place in the Competition.

British Athletics Cross Challenge.
Cardiff - 24th January 2016.

Several members from the club ran for Gloucestershire Schools at Cardiff in the British Athletics Cross Challenge on the 24th January. Gloucestershire Schools use the race as a warmup for the Schools South West Finals that this year takes place at Pitville, Cheltenham in February.

Lauren Farley came 50th in the U13 girls. Isabel Kiey Thomas, 37th in the U15 girls. Rosie Mutsaars, 19th in the U17 girls and Kan Ikeda, 21st, in the U13 boys.

In each of the races, there is also a Schools Competition and Kan Ikeda did extremely well in this, with a well deserved 2nd place and individual silver medal and helping the Gloucestershire team to 1st place and Gold medals.

Gloucestershire Cross Country Championships
Lakers School, Coleford - Saturday 9th January 2016.

The Gloucestershire Cross Country County Championships took place at Lakers School near Coleford in the Forest of Dean for the second year, on Saturday 9th January.  The course again included a challenging section in the Forest that certainly made the distances run feel a lot longer. With all the recent rain the course very demanding with much of the course being very muddy, especially for those in the later races.

The forecast was not good but the weather stayed dry for the U11 and U13 races but the heavens opened up with heavy rain and hail, there after. It was certainly tough going for the U15’s and U17’s.

County Medals were up for grabs for the top three individuals and teams and the top six finishers in each race were guaranteed places to run for Gloucestershire in the Inter Counties at Birmingham in March.

Bourton Roadrunner Junior results were as follows:

U11 Girls – 8th Abigail Barnett, 10th Maria Watkins, 15th Annabella Williams and 23rd Celia Darwent.

U11 Boys – 5th Joseph Davidson, 14th George Quli, 19th Christopher Hunt, 29th Sean Farley, 31st George Farley, 35th Edward Jones and 37th Arthur Quli.
