Gloucestershire Cross Country County Championships.
Old Down Country Park. Near Bristol.
Saturday 6th January 2018.

The Gloucestershire County Championship’s took place at Old Down Country Park, near Bristol, for the 2nd year in a row.  The undulating course is set in the beautiful surrounding of this estate with several steep sections that many athletes found quite demanding.

Although numbers were down on the previous year, with several members missing the race through illness, Bourton Roadrunner Junior’s still did very well.

Abigail Barnett was our sole runner in the U11 girls and ran a well, paced race for 16th place.  Michael Astor keeps getting better and better with another superb run for 6th place in the U11 boy’s and with several more years in this age group could be a potential winner in the future. Kian Dee never disappoints with another strong run for 11th and was well supported by Edward Jones in 29th , bringing the U11 boy’s team home in 3rd place and a well deserved Bronze Medal.

Despite still suffering the after effects of a cold, Kaya Dee destroyed the field behind her in the U13 girl’s showing her class with her sister Taya finishing strongly with another, very impressive run in 2nd. They were supported by Isabel Dennett who is getting better with each race in 24th place securing 3rd team place overall and Olivia McMorris ran bravely, finishing the race despite feeling very unwell in 26th place.

Helena West showed all her experience with a strong showing in the U15 girl’s for 12th place and Isobel Barnett was running well until a recurring injury forced her to retire from the race.

Jake Astor has improved massively from last year and ran his best race to date with an excellent 7th place with Harvey Sawyer also improving on the previous year in 13th place in the U15 boys.

Emily Field and Gabby Jones both ran well in the U17 girls managing 6th and 8th place respectively. Robbie Hughes also did well for his first County Champ’s running strongly for 11th place in the U17 boys.

Kiya, Taya, Emily, Jake and Harvey have been chosen to represent Gloucestershire in the Inter counties Championships and Helena and Gabby are currently reserves.

News for December 2017.

Kiya, Taya and Kian Dee took part in the Rudolph Dash at Painswick on 16th December. Kiya and Taya were 1st and 3rd in the U15 age group and Kian was 2nd in the U15 boys. Very impressive as the girls uasually race as U13's and kian as an U11.

Several Bourton Roadrunner juniors took part in the Oxford Mail Cross Country on the 3rd december. Kiya Dee gained an excellent win beating an Oxford City girl who had previously beaten her. Sister Kiya managed a very good 5th place and younger brother managed 16th despite running with a thorn in his foot.

Gloucestershire Schools County Championships.
Newent
Saturday 2nd December 2017

After the Districh Championships at Cheltenham in November several Bourton Roadrunner Juniors qualified to run in the Gloucestershire Finals with the top runners qualifying to run in the South West Finals and the Nationals for Gloucestershire Schools. In the Junior girls Kiya and sister Taya Dee destroyed the field to finish 1st and 2nd, Elsa Thwaites also did very well to finish 24th. Emily Field ran well to finish 6th in the Inter Girls and Gabby Jones ran strongly for 19th in the Senior Girls. In the senior boys Robbie Hughes went off a little to quickly at the start but held on well to finish 12th.

Other News for November 2017.

Kiya Dee and Taya Dee managed a superb 1st and 2nd place helping their school, Team Farmers to the ESAA Cross Country Finals in Kent on the 25th November.

Gloucestershire Cross Country League Round 2.
Charlton Park. Malmesbury.
Saturday 4th November 2017.

The second round of the Gloucestershire Cross Country League took  place at Charlton Park near Malmesbury on the 4th November. As this was a new venue, nobody was not quite sure what to expect, but the course turned out to be a very good cross country course with hills,  field’s, rutted tracks, mud and the last part of the course following a grassed landing strip. Fortunately nobody had to race an aircraft landing, I feel there would have been only one winner. At one point the runners had to try keeping up with a few Deer, but unfortunately the runners lost out, the deer were just a bit too quick.  Even the cars had to navigate a muddy cross country course, in and out of the venue. Most must agree it was a very good course except the washing of the car afterwards.

As at the previous race at Gloucester, the under 11’s course was quite long at approximately 2.4km and yet being an even more demanding course, the runners certainly took it in their stride. Again the under 11 boys turned up in numbers to support the club.
Kian Dee 16th, Edward Jones 25th and Arthur Quli 27th brought the under 11 boys A team home in a very good 6th place overall. Kian ran his usual strong race, speeding up as the race progressed while Edward had a storming run which should massively increase confidence, after a slight lull of late and Arthur, who is only eight, is a star in the making if he continues to run like this.

The B team were close behind in 10th place with Jacob Sinton in 30th place, a great result despite running when not feeling well, followed by Lucas Hartley another young runner with great potential in 38th. Peter Fletcher was close behind and rang strongly as ever for 40th.

Dominic Luff ran well for 48th and two younger runners Thomas Cassidy was close behind in 49th as was Atticus Sinton in 52nd, bringing the C team home in 15th. Again we even managed a D team which shows the strength of our under 11 boys with Arlen Hartley and Jonathan Cook running well for 56th and 65th  with young runner Noah Williams in  68th who has certainly progressed greatly from the year before.

Unfortunately we do not have the same strength in the U11 girls with Abigail Barnett being our sole runner, but as at Gloucester, again put in a great performance with a great 5th place overall. If she puts the same effort into training, as racing, she will certainly move even further up the field over the coming rounds.

Christopher Hunt put in a great performance with an excellent 9th place in the U13 boys. I remember the days when he was a young under 11 finishing at the back of the race, but through hard work and determination, is now at the front of the field. This should be a massive inspiration to all runners on what can be achieved through hard work and determination. George Quli and Arthur Fletcher both put in a very good performance’s for 18th and 40th respectively, bringing the U13 boys home in 15th.

Sister’s Kiya and Taya Dee again put in great performances in the under 13 girls for 1st and 3rd overall. Kiya increased her lead on a Cheltenham runner from the previous round by  nearly 15 seconds with Taya closing the gap by almost 30 seconds. Maite Capper was our 3rd runner home in 24th moving up another two places, bringing the U13 girls home in a very good 3rd place.  The girls were well supported by Olivia McMorris who ran well for 29th.

In the U15’s boys Jake Astor is getting even better with each race with another excellent performance for 9th overall in a much larger field. 25 at Gloucester, 42 today. Harvey Sawyer a lso did well for 37th after missing Gloucester through illness.

Isobel Barnett returned to competitive racing with a very strong run for 25th in the U15 girls followed by Helena West in 27th who ran despite feeling unwell.

Robbie Wood took part in his first Gloucestershire Cross country race running well for 26th overall in the under 17 boys.

Emily Field and Gabby Jones are adapting well to the longer distance and running with the adult women. Emily finished well in 39th overall and 6th in the U17 despite falling twice and finishing with a bloodied leg and Gabby ran a well paced race for 115th overall and 10th in the U17 race.

Other News for October.

Kiya Dee and Taya Dee helped their school Farmers in Fairford to 1st place in the 1st round of the ESAA English Schools Cross Country Cup at Wycliffe College on the 6th October. Kiya won the race and Taya came 4th.

Christopher Hunt came 12th in the Warwickshire Schools Cross Country and has a chance to be selected to run for the county at an Inter Counties event in November.

Callum Woolley took part in the Cricklade Fun Run on the 1st November and came 3rd male runner overall over the 2.4km course.

Gloucestershire Cross Country League Round 1.
Blackbridge. Gloucester.
Saturday 14th October 2017

The 1st round of the Gloucestershire Cross Country League took place at Blackbridge in Gloucester on Saturday 14th October. The weather was warm for October and the course relatively flat but with some longer slopes which felt steeper than they actually appeared. Bourton Roadrunner Juniors were well supported, especially in the U11 boys but unfortunately did not have enough runners present to score team finishes in several other age groups.

The U11 course was quite a bit longer than usual at approximately 2.6km but with several 3km Fun Runs under their belts, through the summer, most juniors managed the course with ease.

The first race was the U11 boys with Kian Dee running a well, paced race, leading the boys home in 15th, closely followed by Michael Astor in 18th and Arthur Quli in 30th. These results put the 1st team place in a very respectable 5th place after the 1st round.

The next runners home were Jacob Sinton 33rd, Lucas Hartley 35th and Atticus Sinton 39th bringing the 2nd team home in 10th place.

The 3rd team were close behind in 13th consisting of Dominic Luff 45th, Thomas Cassidy 49th and Arlen Hartley 56th. Jonathan Cook lead the 4th team home in 60th with Edward Jones 62nd and Charlie Gauld in 64th. William Chalmer also ran well, slowly working his way through the field one place behind in 65th.

For many of these runners it was their first experience in the league and they all ran extremely well especially with the distance and sure the results will get even better through the coming rounds. No other club had so many runners supporting, well done.

Unfortunately we were unable to field a team in the U11 girls but this did not stop Abigail Barnett running superbly for 4th and a much higher position than expected. She was actually leading for almost half the race but faded a little at the end but still held on for 4th. If she can train well over the coming months and the other rounds being a shorter distance, feel she will certainly get a top three finish over these coming rounds. Annabella Williams did well for 20th but did find the longer distance, quite demanding, but finished strongly at the finish. She will certainly move up places over the coming rounds over the shorter distances.

In the Under 13 boys, George Quli ran strongly for 21st over the 3.4km course and was well supported by Arthur Fletcher in 39th but we were one runner short for a team finish.

Kiya Dee had a superb run in the U13 girls, leading from almost the start, holding off a Cheltenham runner who followed her throughout the race, but was strong enough to hold onto 1st at the finish. Sister Taya Dee also ran extremely well, working her way through the field for a very good 6th place. These girls were well supported by Maite Capper 26th and Isabel Dennett in 46th. The U13 girls team are in 3rd place after the first round.

Over the past months Jake Astor has taken his training to a new level and this is certainly showing. Last season he was towards the back of the U15 boys and in his first round this season managed a superb 5th place after a very strong run. Tom Williamson who only joined the club in the summer also ran extremely well for 24th and sure with more experience and training will certainly move up the field. Harvey Sawyer did arrive at the race expecting to run but due to sickness, could not start.

Helena West, aka our “pocket rocket” who has been at the club for years, again ran strongly as she always does, for a well placed 10th place over 4.3km in the U15 girls but was only runner in the age group.

This year there were changes in the League for the U17 age group with the distance moving from 5km to over 6km and joining the ladies race which is the same distance. In some cases this is much better as there are far more runners of varied different ability. Emily Field ran well finishing in 40th overall and 4th in the U17 girls. As she adjusts to the longer distance, feels she certainly has the ability for a top three finish. As in past years, Gabby Jones  yet again suffered badly from stitch but still managed 136th overall and 9th U17. If she can overcome stitch she will certainly move well up through the field. As the U17 girls were short for the team Isobel Hartley bravely stepped in but had to pull out due to a bad bout of Asthma.

The next round takes place at Charlton Park, Malmesbury on Saturday 4th November.

St Andrews 3K Fun Run & 5K Trail Run.
Chedworth.
Sunday 17th September 2017.

The St Andrews Primary School 3K Fun Run and new 5K Trial Run at Chedworth, was again well supported by the Bourton Roadrunner Juniors. The course is a undulating, mainly off road and a great warm up for the coming Gloucestershire Cross Country League.

Kiya and sister Taya Dee showed their class with Kiya winning the Fun Run and U13 prize with Taya, only 6 seconds behind in 2nd. Michael Astor is also a very exciting prospect for the future at only 8 years old managing 3rd overall, 1st Male and also winning the U9 prize

.

Not to be outdone by his sisters Kian won the U11 boys prize in 5th place overall, closely followed by Arthur Quli in 6th , another very promising 8 year old who also won the highest placed St Andrews pupil. Since joining the club brothers Atticus and Jacob Sinton have worked extremely hard and have improved greatly  with an excellent 8th and 12th place respectively.

Harvey Sawyer has missed a great deal of Summer training but did well for 11th place and 1st  U15 boy as did Olivia McMorris in 14th with a fine run.

Thomas Cassidy and Jonathan Cook performed extremely well, especially as it was their first races for the club.  Thomas U9, managed 15th and Jonathan U11, 17th with Edward Jones splitting them in 16th. Isobel Dennett 18th was closely followed by Darcey Thompson 19th with both girls showing promise.

Our other U9 runners are showing great promise with Noah Williams 23rd, Oliver Craughwell 24th and William Chalmers 30th and our U7’s running remarkedly well with Jasper Williams 36th, Eleanor Jones 51st and Elizabeth Craughwell 55th.

In the 5k Trail Run, Jake Astor who was showing great potential before the summer break continued the trend with an excellent 3rd place and 1st U15. George Quli who has only just moved up from the U11’s ran extremely well for 4th overall and 1st U13 boy. Callum Woolley who is recovering from injury ran sensibly for a well placed 9th overall and 2nd U15.

Will Lockey who is only 10 managed an excellent 12th place in his first race for the club. He will certainly be a strong addition to the U11 boys team if he continues to race. Despite suffering yet again with stitch Gabby Jones was first U17 girl in 18th place and Maite Capper continues to impress in 19th and 1st U13 girl.

Not to be outdone by her children, Diane Dee was first lady home in 6th place with a impressive run.

Bourton One Mile Challenge.
Sunday 4th June 2017.

On the 16th July 2017 the annual 1 mile race took part in Bourton on the Water, this also incorporated the Gloucestershire championships.

Held in perfect conditions the championship got underway at 630pm, followed by the fun run a few minutes after. This has now become a very popular race with approx. 180 athletes taking part. The juniors love running in this race as they all run with the adults, this very rarely happens and they beat most of them as well.

There were some outstanding performances.

Emily Field when she puts her mind to it produces some very good results, she won the under 15 girls race today in 5mins 31secs and also became the county champion. She was also the first Bourton lady home beating all the adults as well. Just shows what she can do!  Kiya Dee again showed what a talent she is finishing 2nd in 5mins 40secs and winning the county silver medal. Her sister pushed her hard to finish 3rd in 6 mins 7 secs and winning the county bronze medal, what a team! Helena west just missed out on the county medals but she ran determined and focused as ever in 4th in 6mins 9secs. Darcy Thompson is always very consistent and races very well as she finished well up the field in 6th today in 7mins 4secs.  Isabel Dennett again ran a very good race against girls much older than her in finish in 8th in 7mins 28secs.

In the under 20 girls Charlotte Foster had a fine run to take the county title for her age group and well deserved in 6mins 21 secs.  In the under 20 men’s race Robbie Hughes has been training well all summer and it showed today finishing 4th in his age category in 5mins 27sec and the first Bourton runner home beating all the adults as well!

In the boys under 15 race Jake Astor just missed out on a county medal in a fine run in 4th in 5mins 41secs Callum Wooley is improving race by race and finished very well in6th today in 5mins 56 secs. Once again this was a very competitive field.

Three minutes after the first race the second wave started, this contains the younger runners and the newcomers to races. However there some very fast runners managing to catch up the main field!

In the girls race the following all had fine runs and soon we will see them in the first wave- Annabella Williams in 6mins 39secs, Oliva Goodwill in 7mins 47secs, Betty Fletcher in 9mins 36secs and Eleanor Jones in 10mins 25secs.

In the boys race there were some fine runs from- Kian Dee in 6mins 16secs, Harvey Sawyer in 6mins 20secs, Arthur Fletcher in 6mins 27secs, Edward Jones in 6mins 36secs, Peter Fletcher in 6mins 44secs, Jacob Sinton in 6mins 45secs, Lucas Hartley in 6mins 56secs, Atticus Sinton in 6mins 57secs, Arden Hartley in 7mins 14secs, Arthur Hanson in 7mins 33secs, George Farley in 7mins 41secs, Mathew Woods in 7mins 54secs, and William Chambers in 8mins 10secs.

Some great runs and lots of promise for the future.

Sherborne Fun Run & 10k.
Sunday 4th June 2017.

This now annual event is becoming bigger and bigger on the demanding course through Sherborne Woods, however at least this year it was dry and Bourton Juniors once again dominated the races

The under 15 girl’s race was very competitive and Kiya Dee was making her debut for the club and what an impression she made, the longer the race went on the stronger she became and she won in style in 9 mins 35secs. Emily Field was in the lead for most of the way but was just over taken near the finish to finish in 2nd on 9 mins 39secs, a very impressive run. She was also pushed hard by Taya Dee in 3rd in 9mins 53secs, what a good result for Bourton. But more good news to follow as we continued to fill the top spots with a fine run from Lauren Farley in 4th in 10mins 14 secs and Freya Ramsay in 5thth in 11mins 57secs. Good to see Darcy Thompson racing so well in 6th in 12mins 42secs and Daisy Keen in 7th in 13mins 22secs. Freya and Eleanore Gilbert were pacing round their younger brother in 11th and 12th. Many of the girls were much younger than 15 so a lot of promise for the future.

In the under 11 girl’s race Olivia McMorris went out very hard and forged a good gap on her rivals, in her first race win she look very comfortable dominating the race in 11mins 34secs.

In the under 9 girl’s race Tilly Sellek had a very solid race in 4th 13mins 45secs, lots of potential here.

In the under 6 girl’s race we had yet another win from the very impressive Evie Sellek in 15mins 28secs, what a future she also has.

The boy’s under 15 race Connor McGuinness had a tough field against him but as ever he battled through the field well to finish 3rd 10mins 45secs closely followed by the ever improving Callum Woolley in 4th who just got pipped on the line to be given the same time in 4th. Toby Sellek also battled round well in 6th in 10mins 55secs. Mathew Woods made his race debut today and a good start to his racing carrier to finish 11th in 14mins 26secs

In the under 11 boy’s race George Quli is going from strength to strength after a good track season to finish 2nd in 10mins 40secs.

To make it a very good debut day for the Dee family Kian Dee won the under 10 boy’s race in great style in 10mins 12 secs.

Jacob Sinton raced well in the under 9 boy’s race to take 2nd spot in 11mins 50secs

Arthur Quli is now starting to be notice as he won his race well today in the under 8 boy’s race in 11mins 13secs

Also another good win for Atticus Sinton in the under 7 boy’s race in 12mins 29secs and he was backed up well by William Chambers in 4th in 16mins 10secs.

What a race debut for Raphael Gilbert following in his sisters footsteps to win the under 6 boys race in 17mins 23secs.

Other News June 2017

Several Bourton Roadrunners took part in the Cirencester Park 3k Junior Summer Sizzler race on Wednesday 14th June 2017. George Quli did extremely well for 6th overall in 13:05 and his younger brother Arthur was not far behind in an excellent 18th place in 14:11. Callum Woolley who was still recovering from illness did well for 19th, just behind Arthur in 14:13. Atticus and Jacob Sinton have both started racing recently  and are both certainly enjoying it with 30th and 39th,  15:46 and  16:34 respectively.

Fairford Fun Run & 10k.
Sunday 4th June 2017.

This is the first time that the Fairford Fun Run has been included in the Bourton Road Runner Race Champ Competition. It was a relatively flat course at just under 3km and the weather was good and enjoyed by all those that ran. There was a great deal going on as the race was part of the colourful Fairford Festival and also included a 10km race. A great family day out and we hope to include it again next year.

Although the number of Bourton Roadrunners were down compared to Northleach, fifteen runners came and supported the club
First runner home was Jake Astor in 2nd place in 11:08, just two seconds behind the winner and first U13+.  It will not be long before he wins a race if he continues to train regularly.  Again Emily Field was first lady in an excellent 3rd overall  not far behind Jake. As with Jake if Emily continues to train regularly has a great future in this sport.

Jake’s two brothers were the next two runners home with Charlie 8th and Michael 11th. Due to other commitments Charlie only trains occasionally, which is a shame as if he trained regularly would be even further up the field. Michael is still only 8 years old and is a very exciting prospect for the future.

Callum Woolley only joined the club recently and always works hard at his training and at this early stage this is showing with an excellent 12th place. If he continues to work at his training there is a great deal more to come.

Edward Jones managed a very good 25th place closely followed by Maria Watkins, Olivia McMorriss and Maite Capper in 28th, 29th and 31st place respectively. Atticus and Jacob Sinton are also new members  and ran well for 39th and 40th place. Noah Williams who is only 8 did well for 50th, closely followed by William Chalmers in 52nd in his first race for the club.  Kizzy Brooker ran with a sore foot and did well for 72nd followed by her sister Charlotte in 89th, also in their first race for the club.

Unfortunately only a few times were taken but all positions were correct.

Northleach Fun Run & 10k.
Sunday 21st May 2017.

There was a large contingent of Bourton Roadrunner Juniors at the Northleach Fun Run on Sunday 21st May. The course is mainly off road starting and finishing at Northleach Primary School and includes quite a demanding hilly section but finishes with a longish, downhill section, on the road.

Jake Astor was the first BRR junior runner back taking 2nd place overall in an excellent 13:04. George Quli and Michael Astor finished in joint 3rd place in an equally impressive time of 13:36 especially as both boys are only 11 and 8 respectively. George improved on his previous year’s time, by nearly 30 seconds and Michael certainly has a bright future in the sport, if he continues to train.

Emily Field was 1st lady and 6th overall in 13:42 with a strong run and Lauren Farley was 2nd lady in 14:04 for 10th overall and beating her time from last year by nearly 1 minute. Christopher Hunt continues to impress, despite coming back from injury with an excellent 8th place in 13:45 improving from 16:20 the year before although I have a feeling he lost his shoe last year.

25 juniors took part in total and the runners above were well supported with Sean Farley 13th (14:17, 15:55 last year), Dougal Hamilton-Smith 16th (14:38), Callum Woolley 18th (15:15, 17:04 last year), Henry Everitt 19th (15:16), Arthur Quli 20th (15:19, 19:40 las year), Edward Jones 21st (15:21), Ella Davies 23rd (15:29), Harvey Sawyer 24th (15:37), Atticus Sinton 26th (15:41), Ella Gray 28th (15:43, 17:07 last year), Maite Capper 30th (16:04, 18:19 last year), Matilda Gorton 34th (16:21), Arlen Hartley 36th (16:47), Jacob Sinton 37th (17:10), Florence Cowell 38th (17:22), Lucas Hartley 40th (17:32), Daisy Keen 48th (18:46), Darcey Thompson 81st (21:55) and finally Isabel Dennett who injured herself but still finished in 84th (22:14).

Certainly an impressive set  of results with most beating their time last year although conditions were slightly better this year than last. This was the 2nd year the Fun Run was included in the club Race Champ Competition and will certainly be included again. 122 runners took part.

Gloucestershire AAA Track & Field Championships.
Prince of Wales Stadium, Cheltenham.
Sunday 14 May 2017
.

The Gloucestershire Track and Field Championships took place this year at the Prince of Wales Stadium. The weather was dry and quite warm and luckily the rain stayed away. The numbers in races were quite low with quite a wide difference in standard but again the Bourton Junior runners did very well with many managing PB's or getting very close. To qualify for Race Champ points the U11's had to run the 600 metre race and the older age groups in the 1500 metre race. The U11's were split into two groups.

In the U11 girls race Abigail Barnett came 3rd in the first race in 2:17 equaling her time last year and was closely followed by new member Phoebe Alvin in her first race for the club in 4th in an impressive 2:17. In the second race Kizzy, 8th and Charlotte Brooker, 9th also ran very well for theis first race for the club in their quickest time's of the year, 2:46 and 3:07.

The boys also did well with Ed Jones 6th in the first race in 2:17 beating his time last year of 2:21 and Arlen Hartley 7th in 2:28 beating his personal best by 10 seconds. In the second race Arthur Quli ran well in 4th in 2:22 followed by Lucas Hartley, 5th in a very good 2:34 despite running with a bad cold with a great run by Noah Williams for 6th in 2:43 smashing his previous PB of 2:59.

In the U13 girls Olivia McMorris and Isabel Dennett did extremely well both smashing their personal bests with a particulary quick, impressive last 100 metres from Olivia. Olivia came 6th in 6:07 and Isabel, 7th in 6:21, both with a previous best of 6:47 and 6:48.

George Quli was our only representitive in the U13 boys and did very well despite just moving into this age group. he managed 5th in 5:58 beating his previous best by over 15 seconds.

Helena West and Emily Field were again our only representitives in the U15 and U17 girls races. Helena again ran very strongly in the U15's race managing 7th in a PB of 5:41 beating her time last year of 5:47. Emily Field did extremely well following the leaders in the U17 girls race for 2nd place overall and a Silver County Medal and PB time of 5:08. beating her time last year of 5:14.

In the U15 boys race Jake Astor keeps improving with an excellent 3rd place in 5:08 and bronze County Medal beating his previous best of 5:57. He was well supported by Harvey Sawyer 4th in 5:50 improving on his PB and Callum Woolley 5th in his first race for the club in a very good 6:10.

Brewers Games.
Prince of Wales Stadium, Cheltenham.
Monday 1st May 2017
.

The Brewers Games is a regular event usually run on the May Day Bank Holiday Monday but this is the first time we have considered the event for our Race Champ Award. Unfortunately the minimum ten juniors members needed to include the event in the competition was not achieved, partly due to the Quad Kids event filling up quickly through high demand.

The Quad kids is a great event with junior members in separate U11 and U13 age groups competing in a sprint 75m/100m, long run, 600/800m, long jump and a throwing event called vortex.

Maria Watkins was our only junior who took part managing 0:15.3 in the 100 metre sprint, 2:53 in the 800 metres, 3.54m in the Long Jump and 16.64M in the Vortex Throw. She did very well managing 15th in the Girls Competition and 30th overall including the boys. Over 100 juniors took part.

We also had three members compete in the 1500 metre race where all age groups ran together. They all ran very well with Emily Field 1st U17 girl in 5:18 and Gabby Jones 3rd U17 girl in 6:07. Harvey Sawyer ran well in 5:51 for 1st in the 15 boys.

Gabby and Emily also took part in the Long Jump with Gabby managing 5th U1 Girl in 3.85 and Emily 6th in 3.32.

Hopefully we will have more members take part but book up early especially for the Quad Kids but enen in the other races as there is quite a large charge for registering on the day.

On Tuesday 25th April we presented our 2016 Awards including Athlete of the Year and Race Champ 2016 Awards as well as the medals and trophies for our 2016/17 Cross Country Comtetition, before the training session started. Unfortunately the weather was poor so the presentation took place in the Leisure Centre, rather than the training field and the medals and trophies were kindly presented by the club President, Norman Lane.

The first awards were for Athlete of the Year. Points are accumulated for Attendance, Improvement and support of the Club in Races. The top runners all win a trophy with the top Boy and Girl winning the overall trophy and the member with the greatest number of points, who have not won the trophy before winning the Jack Oaky Trophy.

The overall winners this year were Maria Watkins and Peter Fletcher with Maria also winning the Jack Oaky Trophy.

The runner's up were Edward Jones, Gabby Jones, Emily Field, Sean Farley, Arthur Quli, Isabel Dennett, George Quli, Abigail Barnett, Christopher Hunt, Arthur Fletcher, Helena West, Annabella Williams, Connor McGuinness-Dean, Charlotte Foster, Robbie Hughes, Charlie Phipp & Celia Darwent.

Although the U9 age group does not exist in the Gloucestershire League we include it in our competition. The top three finishing positions are added together as points with the lowest number of points winning each age group. The overall trophy goes to the Girl and Boy with the lowest number of points over all four races and age groups.

Pendock Spring Chicken Run.
Sunday 26th March 2017
.

This is the first time we have included this event in the Race Champ Competition which included a Fun Run over approximately one mile, a 5km and 10km race. A great day out for the whole family. Unfortunately the 5km run filled up fast but members could still enter the Fun Run. We were extremely dissapointed that after showing the finishing positions in the Fun Run previous years they did not take them this year. Although we can understand times not being taken we do feel that not taking positions was a huge mistake and if this is the case next year will have to reconsider including this event again next year.

Jake Astor and Edward Jones both entered the 5K race before it filled up and both did very well. Jake Astor came 3rd overall in an excellent 20:26 and if he continues working hard with his training could see him winning this race in the future. Edward Jones is still an U11 and is more used to 1.5/2 km distance but did ver well for 31st overall, 12th junior male in a time of 26:48. The course was quite tough with a few hills to contend with.

Emily Field decided to run in the Fun Run winning it with relative ease. A shame she did not enter the 5km as there was a good chance she could have been 1st female as her times are close to Jake's and the leading ladies were over 30 seconds behind.

Maria Watkins, Dougal Hamilton-Smith, Dominic Luff, Lucas Hartley, Arlen Hartley and Noah Williams ran in the Fun Run but regretably we do not have positions as they were not taken.

Other News - March 2017.

Emily Field ran extremely well in the English Schools Cross Country Championships for Gloucestershire at the Norfolk Country Showground at Norwich on 18th March. The course was relatively flat, but the going was quite tough against a strong wind but it was a course that suited Emily. She came 216th out of 345 runners and was 5th Gloucestershire runner overall. Rosie Mutsaars was also chosen to run but was extremely disappointed having to pull out due to sickness the night before the race.

Helena West ran for the first time, in the Inter Counties at Loughborough on Saturday 11th and ran well for 285th in the U13 girls. Rosie Mutssars also did well for 206th in the U17 girls.

Gloucestershire Primary Schools Cross Country Championships.
Newent- Saturday 11th March 2017.

The Primary School Cross Country Championships took place for the second year at Newent School over a very good undulating course of approximately 1.8km. Eight different regions send their twelve best runners to compete for their region, in the finals.

In the U11 girls competition it was always going to be difficult to acheive a top place as several of the top girls pulled out before the race but those that stepped in did well. Abigail Barnett ran well after winning the selection race at Moreton for a very good 24th. and there were very good performances from Isabel Dennett 41st, Olivia McMorris 45th and Lily Burden 54th. 89 runners took place in the race and Abigail was selected to run for Gloucestershire in the Year 5 Competition at the Primary School Nationals..

The boys did extremely well coming 5th overall in the Competition despite loosing their top runner to the Inter Counties at Loughborough, if he had been present there would have been a great chance of 3rd or possibly 2nd. The BRR contigient did very well with Lysander Tarrant, first North Cotswold runner home in 14th after managing 28th the year before, great improvement. Jack Theo also ran well for 29th after finishing 52nd the year before. The team were well supported by Arthur Fletcher 32nd, George Quli 53rd and Michael Astor 83rd who is only a Year 3 and a great prospect for the future.

A big thank you to the oraniser's as a great course and a big thank you to Di Clarke.

Gloucestershire XC League Round 4.
Pitville Park Cheltenham.

Saturday 18th February 2017 .

The final round of the Gloucestershire Cross Country Competion took place at Pitville Park, but due to wear on the park had to alter the course from previous years that did cause a little confusion on the day to those who had run it in the past. Luckily the weather was good and the ground firm in most parts, so very good going for the runners with the usual stream section and a few small climbs to contend with.

The U11's distance was longer than usual at 2.2km, the U13's 2.7km and the U15/17's 4.8km.

Maria Watkins led the U11 girl's team home in 12th with Abigail Barnett 17th and Olivia McMorriss 23rd supporting bringing the girls team home in 3rd overall. They were well supported by Isabel Dennett 32nd and Ella Gray 38th.

The U11 boys managed three teams with George Quli first runner home in 15th place, Arthur Fletcher 24th and Sean Farley 30th bringing the boys home in a 6th position. Our next three runners home were Dougal Hamilton-Smith 36th, Edward Jones 42nd and Dominic Luff 44th for 9th place. Our final three runners were Arthur Quli 50th, Jamie Mather 62nd and Noah Williams 66th for 16th.

Helena West ran very well on the day managing 9th with Lauren Farley 16th and Isobel Barnett 30th and third runner home. The girls managed 5th place overall in the U13 girls competition and was supported by Darcey Thompson in 33rd who did extremely well on the day as does not race very often.

Thomas Mather was our only runner in the U13 boys race with our other runners away for half term but did well for 29th place.

In the under 15 races Emily Field ran well in the girls race for 9th on the day but did enough in the previous round's to come third overall in the competition for an excellent individual Bronze medal. Harvey Sawyer was a late arrival and just managed to reach the start before the race started and was always going to find it difficult against strong competition in the U15 boy's but still finished the race in 23rd place.

Gabby Jones was our only runner in the U17 girls but ran well for 7th place.

Other News - February 2017.

Emily Field has been chosen to run for Gloucestershire Schools at the Schools Nationals for the first time at Norwich in March. A great acheivement after putting in a lot of hard work over the past year.

Helena West has been chosen to run in the Inter Counties for Gloucestershire at Loughborough on 11th March 2017 in her first Inter Counties.. She qualified as a reserve from the Gloucesershire County Finals in January.

The weather was awful at the Schools South West Finals at Truro. Emily Field made the long trip to Cornwall and did extremely well for 38th overall. Although the weather picked up just before her race, the conditions were extremely muddy with many runners falling, luckily Emily was able to stay on her feet. Fingers crossed that she has done enough to represent Gloucestershire in the Nationals at Norwich.

North Cotswold Primary School District Championships.
Fire College, Moreton-in-Marsh
.
Wednesday 8th February 201.

There was a good showing of Bourton Road Runners at the Gloucestershire Primary Schools North Cotswolds District Cross Championships took place at Moreton Fire College as in previous years on Wednesday 10th February. The course is relatively flat and approximately 1500 metres long. Conditions and the weather was good.

The top twelve runners in the girls and the boys race all qualify to race for the North Cotswolds team  in the Gloucestershire Primary Schools County Championships at Newent in March. The next four runner's qualify as reserves. There is always strong Competition in the finals from the other regions, with the top individuals and teams winning medals. Chris Hartley will again be the North Cotswolds manager in the finals.

In the girls race Abigail Barnett ran a superb race and deservedly won the race after following the leader and overtaking her in the last few metres before the finish, last year she was 2nd. Isabel Dennett was not far behind with her best run to date managing 4th up from 25th last year. Newer member Olivia McMorris who joined the club in the summer is certainly showing her ability with a superb 5th place after coming 27th and 47th in the previous two years.

They were well supported with Ella Gray 16th and Sophie Finlay 29th.

Lysander Tarrant was first Bourton Roadrunner home and after some impressive results in training ran impressively with an excellent 2nd place up from 7th last year. Lysander was closely followed by Jack Theo with a strong run for 3rd moving up from 4th last year. George Quli has been getting closer to Lysander in training and this showed with a very good 6th place.

They were strongly supported by Michael Astor 10th who also qualifies for the finals with Arthur Fletcher 13th with a massive improvement on 49th last year and Charlie Astor 15th who will be both reserve's for the finals.

Other results: Sean Farley 29th (Up from 44th last year), William Lockey 34th, Arthur Quli 35th, Henry Everitt 39th, Dominic Luff 44th, Peter Fletcher 56th (With a massive improvement, 96th last year), Jamie Mather 81st and Matty Gillie 115th.

All our runners did Bourton Roadrunners proud and sure many of you will move up places again next year if you continue to train.

Schools Inter Counties/British Athletics Cross Challenge.
Blackweir Fields - Cardiff.

Sunday 22nd January 2017.

The British Cross Challenge Cardiff takes place annually in the beautiful Blackweir Fields, part of Bute Park, very close to the city centre and castle on the banks of the River Taff, a lovely location. The course is quite flat with a lumpy woodland section but can get quite muddy after a period of wet weather. Luckily the weather was lovely this year.

This race incorporates two races in one with the main race being the British Cross Challenge which is part of a series of races and a minor inter counties schools competition. Gloucestershire Schools use the race as a warm up for the Schools South West and National Competitions in February and March.

Emily Field enjoys these flatter courses but was also one of the younger runners in the U17 girls's race but did very well for 39th overall, 9th in the Inter schools competition and 6th Gloucestershire Schools finisher. This will certainly be good enough to qualify for the South West finals and may be good enough for the Nationals.

Rosie Mutsaars also ran extremely well for 29th overall, 5th in the Inter Schools and 4th Gloucestershire runner that almost definately qualifies her for the South West and Nationals. She also has another year in this age group.

Very well done to both girls.

Gloucestershire Cross Country County Championships.
Old Down Country Park Near Bristol.

Saturday 7th January 2017.

Tockington Schooly kindly hosted the Gloucestershire County Championships in the grounds of Old Down Country Park, north of Bristol. All runners were given free admission to this picturesque park with gardens, play area and even Llamas. There were county medals up for grabs and also the chance of selection to run for the county in the Inter Counties in the U13 age groups and above for those coming in the top eight.

The course was undulatiing and quite muddy in parts with a few steep sections but with some lovely views although the runners probably did not notice this but great for spectators.

We had our strongest team representing the U11 girls with Maria Watkins managing 9th, Annabella Williams 12th and Olivia McMorris 16th bringing the girls home in 3rd place overall and a bronze medal and only one point off silver. They were well supported by Maite Capper 21st and Isabel Dennett 22nd.

There was also a strong team for the U11 boys with Lysander Tarrant 6th, George Quli 9th and Dougal Hamilton-Smith 25th bringing the boys home also in 3rd and again one point off Silver. They were also well supported with Edward Jones 26th, Michael Astor 32nd and Arthur Quli 37th bringing the B team home in 8th place.

Helena West ran strongly in the U13 girls competition coming 10th giving her an outside chance of making the Inter counties as a reserve and was closely followed by Lauren Farley in 12th. Celia Darwent also ran well for 20th, bringing the girls team in a well deserved 5th place overall.

We also had a strong team in the U13 boy competition but were up against strong opposition. Louis Mutsaars was first runner home in 12th place, Connor McGuinness-Dean 18th and Jago Tarrant 21st bringing the team home in a very good 5th place.

There was also a great chance for a medal for our U17 girls but unfortunately Gabby Jones 12th picked up an injury during the race but continued to the end not to let the team down but missed out by one point. Rosie Mutsaars again ran extremely well for 5th overall and almost guaranteeing her a place in the Inter Counties and they were well supported by Charlotte Foster 10th.

Jake Astor surprisingly ran despite suffering an upset stomach for the days leading up to the race in the U15 boys but did find the going tough but finished in 12th place. Harvey Sawyer decided to run with his team mate to give him support finishing in 12th place.

Emily Field had a great chance of making the Inter Counties but unfortunately twisted her ankle badly and had to pull out in the U15 girls race.
