Club Participation in Races - Report of 18th November

Double Dose For Bourton Juniors

For some of Bourton's younger members, the weekend was a test of stamina, as they represented The Cotswold School in the first round of the area Schools Cross Country at St. Edwards Junior School in Cheltenham, only to race again the next for Bourton Roadrunners in the 2nd fixture of the Gloucestershire League Cross Country at Blackbridge.

Performances were exceptional all round. On Friday Beth Pudifoot won the Under 15 Schools, with Beth Wynn a best ever 4th position, easily qualifying them both for the County Champs in December.  In the older group Steph Lane had a clear win for the Yr 13 Girls with back up from Martha Carrick 12th, as did Brittany Teague in the Yr 12 Girls.  Lewis Gray improved tremendously from last year with an 8th placing.  All of the former will be representing North Glos in Westonbirt on 6th December.

Kieron Shoemark, James Outhwaite and Lee Knowles also did both runs and narrowly missed out.

The next day all the former showed no sign of tiredness as, again, they were at the top of their races, with Beth Pudifoot an excellent 3rd and Beth Wynn 11th in the U/15 Girls.

Brittany Teague finished 1st U/17 Lady, while Steph Lane in the Senior Ladies race, finished 1st U/20 and 3rd overall.  Louis Gray, James Outhwaite and Lee Knowles finished 10th, 12th and 13th respectively and 2nd team.

Ava Shoemark had a superb run in the Under 11 Girls in 13th place followed by Lottie Hartley 23rd, Hannah Cairns 46th, Emily Dryburgh 50th and Isobel Hartley 51st.  The girls' team was placed 9th overall.

Alex Darwent was the sole Bourton representative in the Under 11 Boys in 30th position.

Kieron Shoemark ran strongly for 19th place in the Under 13 Boys, backed up by Finn Shoemark 33rd and Ben Darwent 40th.  The boys' team were 7th.

In the Senior Ladies Ali Lane was delighted with 16th place and 1st V50, as was Pauline Teague 37th.  The team was completed with Julia Rutherford 63rd and Caroline Ball 71st, who together with Steph Lane 3rd, were 5th Senior Ladies team and 5th Veteran Ladies Team.

The Senior Men were a force in depth with Dennis Walmsley 10th and 1st M45, Andy Chapple 41st, Chris Hartley 49th, Tony Goodwill 75th, Neil Teague 116th, Richard Bufton 132nd, Norman Lane 137th and 1st M65, Chris Bence 166th and Bert Jess 168th, finishing 10th Senior Men's team and 2nd Veteran's Men's team.

The Cornish Marathon

Steve Edwards is back on track with his marathons, reaching number 459.  He unfortunately doesn't seem to have his selection process right, as he always goes for the toughest courses available!!  This choice was the Cornish Marathon, with steep climbs over Bodmin Moor and finishing in Pensilva.

Despite the time he has had to take off for injury, he still completed the second half 4 minutes faster than the first, showing stamina is not an issue and completed in 21st overall position, 4th V45 and 3.16.51, a time which would have been creditable on a flat course.

Steve started carbo loading for the next marathon immediately on finishing with a hot Cornish pasty!
