Club Participation in Races - Report of 26th October

Stroud Half Marathon

The Stroud Half Marathon this year produced some fantastic performances, but none more spectacular than Steph Lane's personal best by well over 4 minutes to achieve a time of 1:18:44, passing International runner, Kate Goodhead, at 11 miles to step into 3rd place and then forge on to open nearly a minute gap.  This is just one year on from Steph's first half marathon at Stroud in 2007 which she completed in 1:37.  Three more half marathons in between have seen her knock huge chunks off this time at each one.  Steph led the ladies team home, who with Lucy Walmsley in a superb time of 1:28:58 and her mum Alison, 1st Vet 50 in 1:32:56 finished 3rd team.

The men also produced some amazing results, with Alistair Lockey pulling out a personal best to finish in 12th place in 1:13:24 and first V40, 3 places ahead of team mate Dennis Walmsley in 16th place 1:13:49 and first V45.  These two joined forces with Mike Smith 1:15:58 and Andy Chapple in a PB time of 1:20:28 to finish 3rd Men's team.

Dawson Lees ran a fine PB time of 1:26:16, followed by Rob Edwards who was delighted with his 1:28:29 time.  Tony Goodwill ran a solid 1:30:21 and Tom Jess in his first Half Marathon was pleased with 1:33:47.  Vet 60 runner, Norm Lane, was in good form for 1:36:59, with Phil Brush 1:37:45.   Justin Launchbury finished just behind in 1:38:32.

Rob Humphris and Julia Rutherford ran good consistent runs for 1:41:10 and 1:41:31, closely chased by Jim Lunney in 1:42:08.  Rachel Griffin and Calum Forsyth ran together for 1:48:04, with Calum no doubt feeling the Abingdon Marathon of just one week ago in his legs, which he completed in 3:47:46.   Lynn Hudson was next in 1:48:19, followed by Shirley Creed 1:49:06, Gill Carrick 1:54:59 and Bert Jess 1.55.07.

Snowdonia Marathon

On Saturday Steve Edwards completed marathon number 458 on the tough Snowdonia course in a time of 3:34:54 for 133rd place out of 1166 starters.   The weather conditions were absolutely atrocious with gale force winds and driving rain making running quite dangerous in parts.  Not surprisingly, quite a few failed to finish and there were a few minor injuries from runners being blown over!  This was even more creditable as he has had to take time off from training recently due to an injury.
