Gloucester 10 Mile

The Gloucester New Year's 10 Mile Road Race following on the next day after the Cross Country County Relay Champs at Plock was difficult, not just because of the previous day's exertions, but because of the freezing conditions and icy roads. This was the first of the Gloucestershire Road Race Series and the Bourton Roadrunners 6 from 10 Series. After a massive turnout on the day, delaying the start half an hour, Steph Lane was the first Bourton Roadrunner to cross the line in 17th place overall and 3rd lady, with a time of 62 minutes. Ewen Smith picked up maximum points as first Bourton man in 65:37.

Ian Shoemark was next in 66th position and 67:12. Lucy Walmsley is continuously improving and gave a great battle with Tom Jess to finish one second ahead in 68:32. Ali Lane was first Vet 50 in 73:51, followed by Rob Humphris 74:24, Brian Hulcup 75:48 and Julia Rutherford 75:52.

Norm Lane finished 2nd Vet 65 in 78:11, closely chased by John Gibson 78:16 and Roger Woodley 78:41. Lynn Hudson had a very good run for 79:45, David Hanson 80:53, Shirley Creed 82:16, Simon Rutherford 83:43, Liz Hulcup 85:32, Gill Carrick 86:33, Bert Jess 87:29, Jan Short 94:30 and Ed Rozier 95:42.

The very young under 13 girls team of Corrigan Cox 7th, Eleanor Hall 15th and Amy Wynn 16th did well for 4th team. However Ben Darwent was the only representative in the Under 13 boys in 14th.
