Wolverhampton Marathon - 6th September

This was Steve Edward's 10th and fastest Wolverhampton Marathon, when he clocked 3:04:50 to finish 3rd V45 and 17th overall out of 300 finishers. Steve initially set out to run around 3:05 knowing that this course was a lot more undulating than last week at Longford. So having reached halfway in 1:32:30, he was spot-on where he needed to be. Fortunately Steve was able to keep the same pace going throughout and finished just inside his target time for a slightly negative split.

That's 420 sub 3:30s now, but no rest though, next week is Robin Hood where there should be more blue-and-red vests on show!

Nottingham Marathon & Half - 13th September

Steve hadn't run the Robin Hood event since 2005 and the first half of the course had changed significantly, being more undulating than the previous course. However, having ran the event 15 times prior to yesterday, Steve still managed to record his best ever time on this course of 3:01:55 finishing 3rd V45 and 43rd out of a field of over 1300 finishers, so top 4%.

Steve Edwards - Nottingham Marathon 2009

Again, Steve was so close to that 3 hour barrier, (must try harder!) Seriously though, he was never really on for breaking 3 hours having gone through half way in 1:30:40 and hitting the notorious headwind along the water park at 19 miles losing a bit more time, Steve reached 20 miles in 2:19 and although he ran pretty strongly right to the end, it was never going to be enough. However, Steve was still pleased to be keeping this consistent run of results going. That's 5 sub 3:05s in 7 weeks now; he's just hoping that he can maintain it, Anglesey next Sunday.

In the Half marathon Chris Hartley achieved a creditable 1:26:30 (111th), on his return from injury. Ian Shoemark finished yet another sub-90 minute half in 1:29:26 (194th) and Andy Peaston finished strongly in 1:33:59 (334th). All three ran well given a field of 6,645 finishers.
