Bourton Mile Challenge - 17th July 2010

Both the Men and Ladies Course Records were beaten at Bourton on Saturday in the 7th running of the event on the current course, with just 3 seconds between the top 3 finishers, all from Stroud AC.

Junior man, Tom Curr, had an amazingly fast run, finishing in 4 minutes and 19 seconds, hotly chased in by Robert Galt in 4:21, followed by Tom Purnell in 4:22. The usual running celebrities could do nothing to match the blistering pace and had to be content to cross the line in times which could normally have won the race.

The first Lady, Rose-Anne Galligan of Gloucester AC was really up among the men in 7th place overall, with a fantastic time of 4:37, just 8 seconds off the £500 course bonus.

Mike Smith of Bourton Roadrunners was delighted to achieve first V/40 placing in 4:52, Ed Bishop of Tewkesbury first V45 in 5:39, Kevin Pye of Sharnwood AC first V50 in 5:12, Andy Norman of Severn AC first V55 in 5:27, Derek Lightstone of Severn AC first Vet 60 in 5:41, Ken Buckle of Cheltenham and County Harriers first V65 in 6:39, Mike Ward of Tewkesbury first V70 in 7:57 and Gregg Halliwell of Westbury Harriers, first U/20 in 4:36.

In the Ladies' race Gemma Collier of Gloucester just held off Michelle Kerfoot of Bitton Road Runners for 2nd, by one second in 5:24. Sarah Harper of Bourton Roadrunners finished first LV35 in 5:45, Jane Wassell of Cirencester first LV40 in 5:31, Karen Galpin of Almost Athletes first LV45 in 6:22, Jan Short of Bourton Roadrunners first LV50 in 6:50, Liz Hulcup first LV55 in 6:50, Eileen Dodwell of Angels RC in 8:49 and Becky Summers first U/20 in 5:33.
