Two Oceans 56k - South Africa, White Horse 10k, Utecht Marathon & Bourton Easter Fun Run

Two Oceans 56k, South Africa

The long awaited Two Oceans 56K race in South Africa eventually arrived for Ewen Smith and after all the pressure he would have been forgiven for cracking under the strain. To return to home soil after years of absence, run in front of family, friends and former running team mates and perform well was paramount. With a target time of 4:45 - 5 hours, Ewen fulfilled all his dreams to record 4 hours 30:58, for the first time beating all his old running colleagues, and maintaining a fantastic pace throughout for the massive personal best time. Hopefully he can now take a well-deserved rest and enjoy the rest of his holiday.

Ewen Smith - Excellent Form at Two Oceans

Severn AC White Horse 10k, Sandhurst

Back in Gloucestershire, the home crowd were expending some valuable calories before consuming their chocolate eggs the next day, in the Easter 10K at Severn's White Horse 10K at Sandhurst. First in for Bourton in a good 3rd place was Dennis Walmsley in 34:02. Lewis Gray and Conor Shoemark both achieved superb PBs for 11th and 17th positions with respective times of 35:54 and 36:16. Jan Short won the LV/50 prize for her time of 48:02, Liz Hulcup notched up 49:07, Susan Hunt 50:23 and Gill Carrick 51:53.

Utecht Marathon, Holland

With just 6 days to go to what will hopefully be a successful finale to Steve Edwards' 500 marathon challenge, there was no let up in the schedule with Steve and Teresa making an 800 mile round trip by car to Utrecht in Holland where Steve was running the marathon on Easter Monday.

Meeting up with the Ray O'Conner, race director from Connemara, Steve decided to help pace Ray round for a new pb which was currently 3:26. Setting off at 3:15 pace they maintained almost perfect splits going through halfway in 1:37:30 and 20 miles in 2:28. They were both still on for 3:15 until about 38km when Ray started to tire a little, Steve then had to make a decision, sub 3:15 or stay with Ray?. With 3km to go and just under 14 minutes left, the sub 3:15 camp won and Steve picked up the pace. It wasn't until 41km though that Steve remembered there was another 200m after 42k, how could he forget! With a final sprint over the last 1.2km, he came home to finish in 3:14:49 for 107th position out of nearly 600 starters. The final mile 5:59!

Ray followed just over 2 minutes later in a massive new pb of 3:16:52 and whilst very pleased, Steve's not sure if he'll be forgiven for leaving him in favour of chasing another sub 3:15, his 214th in total. I guess he'll find out when he arrives in Galway on Friday!

Bourton Easter Fun Run

The next day Conor Shoemark led the Bourton Easter Fun Run home, looking very comfortable in a time of 6 minutes and 10 seconds. In a field in excess of 50 1st overall female was Rachel See, Kieren Shoemark 1st Under 16, 1st Under 14 Matt Heming, 1st Under 11 Finn Stanton, 1st Under 8 Daniel Bufton, 1st Under 16 Girl Emily Stevens, 1st Under 14 Girl Rachel Heming, First Under 11 Girl Eva Shoemark and First Under 8 Girl Laura Heming. On the short course first home was James Gunn in 4:26 with first girl Libby Herbert.
