Llanelli Marathon - 10th April 2011

Over a hot and challaging weekend Bourton runners once again produced some great results. At the Llanelli Marathon, Tony Goodwill ran a controlled race to achieve his goal of sub 3hours 15 minutes to qualify for next year’s London Marathon in 3 hours 14 minutes 12 seconds to finish 35th. He was accompanied by clubmate Steve Edwards in 3:14:13.

Rob Humphris ran the race of his life and although narrowly missed his 3 hour 30 minute taget, he still managed a massive 8 minute PB in 3 hours 31 minutes and 12 seconds.

Gill Carrick started off to break the 4 hour-mark, but the heat took its toll, with Gill still managing a respectable 4 hours 28 minutes.

Tony, Steve & Rob cool-off after Llanelli Marathon

Many thanks to Tony and Lynn Spedding, who drove all the way there just to see us, and were there from the start until the bitter end!, and to Dawn and Teresa who did a great support-job with drinks and gels on a very hot and sunny day. Before and after photos provided above; including the men cooling their legs in the lake!

Highworth 5 Miles - 10th April 2011

At the Highworth 5 mile a few getting back to fitness and recovering athletes performed above expectation. Dennis Walmsley ran a fast 27 minutes 52 seconds to finish 4th overall and 2nd vet 40.

Getting back to fitness Mike Smith finished 9th in 29:04, followed by Ewen Smith in a sprint to narrowly miss beating Mike for the first time, in 29:05 to finish 10th.

After a long time out with injury it was great to see Steph Lane back on the road with a solid run in 36 minutes. After a sluggish start Ali Lane had a particuarly strong 2nd half of the race to haul-back clubmate Liz Hulcup in another sprint finish for a time of 38:29. Liz Hulcup ran a great race in 38:30 and claimed the 1st super-vet trophy.
