Bourton Roadrunners 10k - 27th February 2011

The Bourton 10K Road Race, ever popular due to it’s attractive, well supported course and good organisation, took place on Sunday the 27th February in almost perfect conditions; calm and dull with drizzle just after the race start.

The fast, flat course was graced with local internationals in both the male and female race, with Dan Robinson of Stroud AC setting such a sweltering pace from the off, that only Steven Naylor from Woodstock Harriers could stay with him. However, in Steve's own words he could only match the pace for 3K before he had to drop tempo slightly. The two finished well clear of the rest of the field with impressive times of 30:08 and 30:39.

Leading the chasing pack, John Parker of CLC Striders edged ahead of Cirencester's Chris Illman and James Bolton also from Woodstock Harriers. Andrew Hussey, gave a strong performance to take first Vet 40 prize.

Gloucester AC and Irish track International, Rose-Anne Galligan, stormed through the race amongst the top men, annihilating the rest of the ladies field to cross the line in 35:08. Diana Moore from Headington Road Runners in 38:17 was strongly contested by Lucy Walmsley, 3rd overall and 1st LV 35 in 38:23 and Liz Grolimund of Alchester RC in 39:13.

Host Cub, Bourton were proud of their junior runners, Lewis Gray and Conor Shoemark, being just pipped by Cheltenham Harriers' Dan Owen who took the junior men's title in a very fast time of 35:06, while Beth Wynn, in her first 10K won the Junior Ladies' title in 43:06.
