Guernsey Marathon – 28th August 2011

Funny old thing sport; a couple of weeks ago Steve Edwards would have given his right arm just to know that he that he would be on the start line to run in Guernsey. Having been injured and having hardly run since the end of June Steve tried a few very steady 6 milers and a week later started to think perhaps he could go for another sub 3:30. Then race day arrived and Steve was standing on that start line thinking that he may as well go out at around 3:20 pace and see what happens; perhaps he might be able to get near to 3:15!

Steve actually finished in 3:14:39 for 12th place having run 1:38 & 1:36 negative halfway splits. He was of course mightily happy, that was until he saw the results. The guy who Steve was rapidly catching in the final half mile and just hung on to finish 4 seconds ahead of him picked up the 1st V40 prize; Steve was gutted! He asks ‘why are we like that, are we never satisfied?’

Anyway, its Steve’s 230th sub-3:15 and 459th sub 3:30; 41 to go!
