Jersey Marathon & Marathon Relay – 2nd October 2011
A brilliant club trip in the best October weather ever seen on Jersey was well worth the trip for all involved. With some outstanding results and overwhelming support our athletes certainly made the best of the occasion.
Shona Crombie-Hicks and Mike Smith were our star performers (pictured together in front centre, in the picture below), with Shona taking command of the ladies race from the start and with a dominating performance won by over ten minutes from the 2nd lady in a new course record time and in 8th overall. A fantastic time of 2:53:36.
Mike had another tough battle as he did at the event last year ,but although could not pull off the victory he had hoped for the 43 year old had an outstanding effort for 2nd place and 1st vet 40 in 2:34:51.
Ewen Smith was oh-so-close in his on-going quest to break 3 hours with a PB of 3:00:04. Steve Edwards had yet another strong marathon on the way to his target, in 3:08:01. Another star-man (also pictured centre) was Tony Goodwill with his best time in some years and winning the vet 55 trophy in 3:08:58.
Pete Scarrot, suffering with injury, had a pleasing run raising a large some of money for cancer research in 3:27:59. Getting ever closer to the 3hour-30-mark was Nigel Firth, with a great run and Pb in 3:38:59. Lynn Spedding found the heat tough going but showed great courage to finish in 4:49:12. Pauline Teague, with very little training, was so close to finishing on a really tough day unfortunatly had to stop at about 24 miles. Thankfully after treatment made a full recovery (great effort).
Our relay teams performed as well as our marathoners, with our 1st mixed team of Sarah, Catherine, Ian, Conor and Brittney finishing an unbelievable 4th overall (only 3 men's teams beat them) and claiming the mixed team title in 2 hours 55 minutes.
Our ladies vets team had an outstanding day to finish 5th ladies overall. They were Lynn, Jan, Susan, Steph and Teresa.
Our 2nd mixed team gave a creditable performance to finish just outside the top 200, with over 250 teams. They were Robin, Gary, Jason, Jo and Carolyn.
Thanks to Mike and Richard and the non-runners support for a brilliant trip.
County Cross-Country Relays, Plock Court – 1st October 2011
At the Plock Court county cross-country relays our shining juniors brought home gold and silver. The girls gold team was Eva Shoemark, Beth Boydell, Isobel and Lottie Hartley.
Our boys silver medal team was Dillon Williams, Daniel Bufton, Tom Pinkham and Joe Bonner.
Our men's and ladies vets also had a great day with plenty gold and silver medals.
Leicester Marathon – 9th October 2011
Steve Edwards said that found it difficult to get motivated after the highs of Jersey Marathon; however, he recorded a fine time a week later at the Leicester Marathon in 18th place in 3:12:37.
