A hard fought battle for the finish line saw Richard de Camps of Cheltenham & County Harriers in 4:22 just manage to hold off international Cardiff AAC athlete, James Thie 4:23 and Ben Robinson 4:23 of Bristol & West. As always, the pace was hot from start to finish and the flat point to point course was lined with spectators encouraging the tremendous efforts put in by all the runners from start to finish.

The ladies’ race was no less competitive, with just 3 seconds between the first 5 finishers: Rachel Coupe of Telford AC crossed the line first in 5:28, with Annabel Roberts, Tewkesbury RC, 5:30 in hot pursuit, tying with 13 year old Kiya Dee of Bourton Roadrunners for 2nd place and following just one second behind Hayley Winters of Gloucester AC and Stephanie Lane, unattached, in the same time of 5:31.

Some fantastic performances were produced throughout the race: John Parker of Cheltenham taking the 1st MV40 prize in 4:45; Calvin Scoltock, Bromsgrove & Redditch, 4:59 1st MV45; Jeremy Mower, Gloucester AC 5:14 1st MV50; Nick Holliday, Stroud & District, 5:31 1st MV55; Mario McNamara, Stroud & District 5:53 1st MV60; Gordon Jones, Cirencester AC 5:58 1st MV65; Dave Spackman, Gloucester AC 7:27 1st MV70; David Blackburn of Severn AC 9:10 1st MV75; Toby Scott, just 15 yrs old from Gloucester AC in an amazing 5 minutes dead 1st M20; James Freeman, unattached, 5:15 for 1st M15.

In the ladies race: Hayley Winters of Gloucester AC 1st LV35 in 5:31; Fee Maycock, Cheltenham & County Harriers, beating all the younger runners for 1st LV40 in 5:47, despite being a LV50; Caroline Cotterell of Cirencester AC, who madly chose to run this race on her birthday! 1st LV45 in 6:03; Alice Lewis of Dursley AC, actually 60 yrs old but beating all the younger runners again in 6:37 for 1st LV50; Jacqui Wynds of Forest of Dean AC 1st LV55 in 7:04; Sharon Smith, Running Somewhere Else, 1st LV60 in 7:19; Liza Darroch of Cirencester AC in 8:46 1st LV 65; Eileen Hieron 1st LV70 in 10:05; Taya Dee of Bourton Roadrunners 1st L20 5:47; Helena Jane West, Bourton Roadrunners 6:08 1st L15.

An emotional finish by Felix Thompson of Bourton Roadrunners 26:24, accompanied by his mum to cross the line brought spontaneous cheers from the crowd and just summed up what the race is all about in achieving targets in many different guises.
