Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire -

Headington 5 Miles - 26th August 2018

Sunday 30th August saw the 30th anniversary of the ever-popular Headington 5 mile road race, which was also an Oxfordshire Grand Prix road race. 476 runners completed the course, with a highly competitive field, including GB international Mara Yamauchi. This event is always popular with Bourton Roadrunners too, who had adopted it as one our own club series events.

First Bourton runner home was Mike Smith in a respectable time of 29:47 (2nd MV50). First Bourton lady was Niamh Shoemark, who finished in a new PB of 33:13 (3rd LV45 and 10th lady overall). Niamh was closely chased all the way by Martin Cook, who finished 6 seconds behind her in 33:19.

Margaret Hollamby, who had not raced since May, was also amongst the prize winners 37:00 (3rd LV55); Margaret's only disappointment was not being able to shave-off the psychological additional one second!

Jennie Glass had a strong race finishing in 38:43, chased by Liz Hulcup who was amongst prize winners in 40:33 (2nd LV65). David Turnbull had a solid run finishing in 42:10, holding-off the chasing run of Linda Edwards, who is training for the New York City marathon, and finished in 42:49. Sharon Rees had a good run, finishing with a positive attitude in 46:15.
