Manchester Marathon - 8th April 2018
Months of hard work training paid off for Chris Lomax, who in his first attempt, achieved his target time with seconds to spare at the Manchester marathon on 8 April. His 3:29:47 is a testament to months of hard work and the guidance and support from other club members.
Four other Bourton Roadrunners also competed with mixed fortunes. Chris Dry narrowly missed his aim to get under 3:45 but was satisfied with a finishing time of 3:50:48. Jennifer Glass was next in and pleased with a new personal best of 3:53:43.
David Rees, who helped to pace Chris Lomax in the opening miles, struggled in the closing stages to finish with 4:01:03. Linda Edwards found it equally tough towards the end and her 4:45:24 will be a learning experience before she takes on the New York City marathon in the autumn.
Highworth 5 - 8th April 2018
On the same day but closer to home, eight Bourton Roadrunners took on the Highworth 5-mile road race which is part of the Wiltshire road race series. For four of our runners: Coral Feenan-Hill, Donna Harper, Alison Quinn and Ian Tolfts, it was their first 5-mile race. They are part of the Club’s walk-to-run-programme, which aims to encourage people to take up running for fitness and fun.
First in was Niamh Shoemark who was pleased with her time of 33:43. Ian Tolfts was next with a personal best of 45:11, just outside his target of 45 minutes. Then came Liz Hulcup, 45:37; Alison Quinn (PB) and Lynn Hudson, both 48:15; Donna Harper (PB) and Shirley Creed, both 53:14; and Coral Feenan-Hill with a PB of 1:01:53.
Everyone was happy with their times especially considering the hill at 4 miles!
Chris Lomaxm, Chris Dry, Jennifer Glass, David Rees and Linda Edwards take-on the Manchester Marathon.
