Málaga Half Marathon – 15th December 2019

Enjoying some winter sunshine, Bourton Roadrunner, Darren Long headed to Spain for the Málaga Half Marathon, to round-off his successful racing season.

For the past ten years Málaga has held two major endurance races, one in spring and the other in winter; this year it was decided to combine them in December. Darren was rewarded with a time of 1:20:15, a PB of 60 seconds.

Meanwhile, back to the winter-chill of Gloucestershire, three of Bourton’s hardy runners took-on the second event in the county’s cross-country league at Old Down Country Club.

The MU17 race was combined with the ladies’ and MV65 races on the day. Bourton’s Jake Astor had a brilliant race in a very competitive field, finishing 5th MU17 and ahead of the very talented lead ladies.

In the same race Diana Dee, having earlier watched twin daughters Kiya and Taya finish first and second in the LU15 race, battled through the field to finish 5th LV50 and seeing-off a good number of the male veteran competitors.

Martin Cook was Bourton’s only senior male to face the challenging 9Km field, as part of his preparation for next spring’s London Marathon. This was the last race of the day, so the course was “well used” from the start. Martin found the resolve to maintain his pace in difficult conditions, supported around the course by family members.
