Northleach 10k – 19th May 2019

The 6th event of the club’s annual race series was the Northleach 10k, organised by Northleach Primary School, in support of 40tude - the colon cancer charity. It was a challenging and undulating multi-terrain course, with Bourton’s Martin Cook the race winner in a brilliant time of 42:26.

Next home for Bourton was Jake Aster (43:48), 5th overall in the race, having won the companion 3k event last year. First lady for Bourton was Niamh Shoemark in 47:59.

Other Bourton runners were Diana Dee (49:08), John Gibson (51:35), Susan Hunt (53:43), David Turnbull (56:59), Gill Carrick (58:39), and Sally Gaden running her first 10k (62:26) – what a course to choose!

Sandford Park Lido Sprint Triathlon – 19th May 2019

Lynn Hudson; however, took part in her first sprint triathlon, comprising of a 400m swim, 17k cycle ride, topped-off with by a run around the paths in Sandford Park and Cheltenham General hospital. Lynn finished a brilliant 3rd LV65.

Gloucester 10k – 19th May 2019

Meanwhile on the same day, three Bourton runners took part in the Gloucester 10k. They were David Rees (48:24), Linda Edwards (second claim 51:43) and Sharon Rees (59:34).

Hook Norton Firkin 5 miles – 18th May 2019

The day before five club members took part in another off-road event – the Firkin 5 mile, organised by the Hook Norton Brewery. Our runners included Nick Harper, Susan Hunt, Janice Townsend, Jeanette Brew and Donna Harper.

Bath Two Tunnels Half – 12th May 2019

This event offered three alternatives for this 13.1 mile event, with Linda Edwards electing to run the ‘return ticket’ two-lap version, taking in the Greenway path and Lyncombe Vale. In addition to the Devonshire and Coombe Down tunnels, 408 metres and 1672 metres respectively, the route also crossed the Tucking Mill Viaduct. Linda, a second claim member, completed the course in 1:59:22.

2019 OMM Lite – 4th & 5th May

Bourton Roadrunners’ Steph and Gary Holton took part in the Original Mountain Marathon (OMM) Lite at Cannock Chase, just one week after they both had run the London Marathon. This was a two day orienteering event.

Day one they collected 220 points over a five hour period and ended in 75th position.

On day two, they had four hours to collect as many points as possible. By the end of the event, they had collected 500 points and had run 30 miles. They gained 15 places finishing in 60th position overall and 9th in the mixed vets group.

Newport Marathon – 5th May

Linda Edwards, Bourton’s second claim runner, took on the 2nd Newport Marathon. With good weather conditions Linda covered the rural course in 4.11.11, a massive PB, and finishing 5th in her age group.
