Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire -

Blaisdon – 16th July 2019

The Red Hart Blaisdon 10k, organised by the Forest of Dean Athletic Club, is one of those friendly races, which often finds itself within the Gloucestershire AAA County Road Race series. It has everything: quite country lanes; a friendly English pub; return past entrants and yes, some hills. The evening of the race was particularly warm and humid, adding to this highly competitive event.

First home for Bourton was Darren Long, who has been enjoying a successful season, finishing strong in 38:12 and 1st MV45 (10th overall).

Other Bourton runners were John Gibson (49:15), Susan Hunt 1st LV50 (49:15) and Gill Carrick (54:47).

Hornton Classic 6 – 20th July 2019

The Hornton Classic 6, organised by Cherwell Runners and Joggers, was the 8th event in this year’s Bourton Roadrunners’ club race series. This race was first held in 1994 with only 25 starters. It has now grown to form part of the Oxon Road Race Grand Prix series of races. Whilst it passes through scenic countryside, including the picturesque villages of Hornton and Horley, it is not for the feint-hearted and may be described positively as undulating.

Leading the Bourton team home on Saturday evening was the ever-youthful Niamh Shoemark (42:55), finishing 1st LV45 and 2nd lady overall. Bourton’s Duathlon world champion, Margaret Hollamby, made light-work of the hills win the LV65 category in a respectable 48:36.

The father and son duo of John and Alan Gibson had decided share the burden by running together, chatting to as many of the marshals as possible on the way round, with dad just managing to cross the line first by a short-head, finishing in 49:54 and 49:53 respectively (the wonders of chip-timing). Close on their heels was Susan Hunt, who raced at Bushy Park parkrun that morning (home of the original parkrun), and had been playing “duck-and-drakes” with the Gibson’s throughout the race, just losing out in the last climb, finishing in 50:49.

John Harding, who has recently joined the club, had another run over another hilly course in a time of 53:21, with Gill Carrick completing the team in a respectable time of 54:10 and 4th LV55.

Immortal Farmoor 10k – 20th July 2019
