Fire Services College Parkrun – 23rd March 2019

Spring has sprung and the proof was at the Fire Service College on Saturday morning. Conditions were the best they've been since the event was launched way back in December, with the grounds team had again worked their magic. Whilst parkrun is not a race, Bourton Roadrunners reflect the diversity of the parkrun population. Although some were aiming to run like the wind and chase their age-group rivals, some were there to complete the course and enjoy the camaraderie and most of us were somewhere in between.

Twenty-six members were among the 289 finishers of this brilliant event, with fourteen gaining a new personal best time. Jack Carroll was the first club member home in a time of 19:30, finishing 3rd overall. Other notable results included: Martin Cook 6th, 20:30; Ian Shoemark 10th, 21:23; Niamh 11th 21:29 and Gabriella Jones 19th 22:29. Margaret Hollamby’s dedication to training is worthy of particular note as she achieved the highest age-related performance for her 24:19 (83.34% - national class level) and a PB.

Coventry Half Marathon - 24th March 2019

Two Bourton Roadrunners took part in the Coventry Half Marathon. It was a lovely sunny morning with a bit of a chill in the air making it ideal running conditions. The course was undulating, leaving the city, taking in some beautiful countryside and villages before returning down-hill back to Coventry City centre finishing outside the steps of the old Cathedral. First of the two Bourton Roadrunners to cross the finishing line was Steph Holton in 1:47:13, followed by husband Gary in 1:56:41.

Bath Half Marathon - 17th March 2019

Darren Long, the sole representative of Bourton Roadrunners, took part in Bath Half Marathon. Although a stiff breeze at the start, the race conditions were good. For Darren, expectations were high, but after 2 miles he ‘rolled’ his ankle. After a tentative further couple of miles with no ill effects, Darren finished in 1:23:42. Whilst slower than expected, it was Darren’s fastest time for a half marathon since 2014.
