Liverool Marathon and Half Marathon – 26th May 2019

A select team of six members from Bourton Roadrunners travelled north for an epic tour of Liverpool for the “Rock and Roll” Marathon and Half Marathon events, with music from around the world.

Tom Hill led the Bourton field on the marathon with an impressive time of 4:37, closely followed by Nick Harper with a PB time of 4:41, which was phenomenal following his London marathon achievement just four weeks earlier.

Bourton ladies were lead home in the half marathon by Allie Quinn, who smashed her PB with a time of 2:21. Donna Harper made an impressive comeback after injury to finish in 2:46. Finally, first-timers Jeanette Brew and Coral Feenan-Hill ran across the line together at 3:12; having stopped for selfies along the route.

All were challenged by the rain and gale force head winds howling up the Mersey which dominated the last four miles of this impressive course. Fortunately the incredible hospitality of the Liverpool people, the crowds and the BRR support team cheering them on made it all possible. Restorative rehydration was sort in the Smugglers Cove Inn to seal a great weekend for all.

Dauntsey 10k – 26th May 2019

On the same day, Darren Long and Maxine Emes ran in the Dauntysey 10k, organised by the Slinn Allstars. The route, which followed a single-lap route through the quite country lanes of Dauntsey, Little and Great Somerford, near Chippenham, provided an opportunity for runners to test their speed.

Darren finished 4th overall in a time of 37:27. Maxine had another great run, finishing in 45:11, 25th in a field of over 200 runners.

London 10k – 27th May 2019

On the bank holiday Monday, John and Alan Gibson ran their eight London 10k together, with Alan looking to capitalise from his recent training support from the club’s elite.

Sticking to the agreed pace throughout, while surrounded by a field of 19000 runners, Alan was rewarded with a new PB of 49:09, plus pipping dad on the line who finished in 49:10.

The other highlight of the day was passing Mo Farrah, leading the field some 5k ahead travelling in the opposite direction towards yet another victory – one of life’s levellers!
