Dorney Lake Easter Marathon - 3rd April 2021

One of the first marathons to take place in the UK, since Covid-19 restrictions have started to ease a little, was the Dorney Lake Easter Marathon, situated near the village of Dorney in Buckinghamshire. The weather was cloudy with a stiff crosswind over an exposed course, which was around the 2012 Olympic rowing lake. This event was more of a time trial than a race, with runners setting off at different times.

Bourton Roadrunner’s Darren Long set off at 9am and was “pretty happy” with his time of 2:54:05, just 1 minutes 15 outside his PB.

Steph Holton, whose start time was 11am, achieved her dream of a sub 3:30 time. Further to an earlier Manchester marathon course having been declared “short” 6 years ago, she thought it was now out of her reach. However, due to Steph having been furloughed from work, she has been able to devote more time to training, and romped home in a very respectable 3:25:52; a massive PB and finishing 1st LV55. Steph did have two supporters: her husband Gary and her friend Catherine who were there as marshals.

Ilmington Winter Series 10k event 2 – 4th April 2021

Bourton’s sole representative at event 2 of the Ilmington Winter Series 10k, was Lorna Shawcross. With a very tough hill within the first two miles, Lorna did well to finish in 54:54 and was 4th LV55.
