Westonbirt Arboretum Easter 10k - Friday 15th April 2022
As the weather continues to holds more and more people can be seen taking the opportunity to get out running, making the most of spring-time. Few locations can compete with Westonbirt Arboretum, with its well-organised 10k race.
Bourton Roadrunners’ second-claim member Linda Edwards in her first race since returning from injury enjoyed the surroundings, finishing in 67:37.
Draycote Water 10k - Saturday 16th April 2022
On the same weekend three members took-on the Draycote Water 10k, which takes in the Daycote Reservoir, over gently undulating tarmac paths.
First home for the club was Darren Long in 39:34, finishing 4th overall and 1st VM50. He was followed by Maxine Emes in 46:30 (1st LV40) and Noelle Morgan in 58:46 (3rd LV50).
Vigo Half Marathon, Spain - Sunday 10th April 2022
Barry O’Leary opted for something a little more challenging, taking on the Vigo Half Marathon in Spain, which was held 10th April.
Known as “The Vig Bay half marathon” it runs along the coast from Vigo to Baiona, Pontevedra in the south of Galicia (buses were laid on for those who wanted to return to Vigo). It is mainly flat, though not quite as flat as the information would have you believe. There was a hill from 3k to 6k but all ascents after that are much shorter.
It was very well organised, plenty of water and sponges, and a well organised start (there were about 5000 running). The big unknown was the weather. When Barry met up in Galicia with friends on the Thursday, the forecast was for rain and wind up to 35 mph. In fact, they had blazing sunshine and it was 23 degrees by the end.
Barry would definitely recommend the event, not least as it is a chance to come to a lesser known part of Spain. The seafood and white wine afterwards were exceptional. Barry had lots of both; he had earned it.
Parkrun Events - Saturday 16th April 2022
Finally, we had our usual presence at a number of parkrun events:
Arrow Valley: Susan Hunt (2nd claim) - 24:55 1st LV55.
Cheltenham: Chris Dry - 26:06.
Chipping Norton: Rob Willaims - 39:51.
South Manchester: Jaq Underwood (2nd claim) - 22:16 2nd LV55.
Witney: Louise Hamilton-Smith - 39:51.
Worcester: Kate and Matt Price - given the same time of 39:20.
Highlights
Westonbirt Arboretum is holding a series of events this year, including the Easter 10k.
Darren, Maxine, and Novelle represented the club at the popular Draycote Water 10k.
Barry enjoyed the sun, seafood and the wine at the Vigo to Baiona half marathon, Spain. The smart choice!
