Bourton Hilly Half + Fun Run - 19th June 2022

Fathers’ Day at Greystone Farm, Bourton-on-the-Water, saw 140 runners tackle the new and challenging Bourton Roadrunners Hilly Half marathon route, while 26 other took on the fun run around the Nature Reserve, all raising funds for the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust.

The first Woman home was Fiona Carter of Lonely Goats RC, in 1 hour 24 minutes, while the first man home was Ben Robinson of Bristol and West AC in a phenomenal time of 1:11:33. Pippa Kryzwaiec and Edward Hare were the first boy and girl home respectively in the fun. Worthy of special note amongst the other fun finishers were juniors Ava Elmer and Emily Moss who alone raised almost £400 for the trust themselves.

Four of BRR’s members took part, as many others were marshalling. Tim Swalling was the first to finish in 1:38:25, followed by Rebecca Townsend, her first half marathon, in 2:00:38. Gill Carrick was close behind in 2:06:06 (3rd LV60) and tail-runner, Liz Hulcup 2:43:37. Also amongst the runners was former club member Joseph Salf, who achieved a respectable 1:34:10.

The club wishes to thank all the volunteers and sponsors who made the event possible, and to everyone who took part.

Chilterns Classic Cycle Ride - 18th June 2022

The day before, two of Bourton’s runners took on the Chilterns Classic cycle ride, which started and finished at Horspath Athletic and Sports Ground, Oxford. Janet Balinski and Margaret Hollamby took up the challenge of 122k (75 mile) ride with over 4000ft of elevation. Janet crossed the finish in 4:18:27 and Margaret in 4:18:36.

Cirencester Summer Sizzler 10k - 15th June 2022

Meanwhile, it was a busy week for Bourton Roadrunners, with two other big events taking place in the West. Eight members were active in the Gloucestershire Road Race Series’ Cirencester Summer Sizzler 10k, at Cirencester Park, on what was certainly a very warm evening. The first club member to finish was 2nd-claim member Jaq Underwood (46:30) and 1st FV55. She was followed by Tom Hill (50:25); John Harding (52:48); Gill Carrick (53:40 – 2nd FV60) and Chris Dry 55:57). Allie Quinn, Louise Hamilton-Smith and Liz Hulcup (2nd LV65) ran together and finished in 59:40, 59:41 and 59:42 respectively.

Welsh Dragon Ride Gran Fondo

Darren Long took part in the gruelling Welsh Dragon Ride Gran Fondo cycle event, which started and finished at Margam Country Park, Port Talbot. It was 213k long with elevation of 11,352ft!! There were 10 long climbs included Black Mountain, Brecon Beacons, Devil’s Elbow and Rhigos climb, with the longest almost 9 miles long and over 1300 feet of climbing. Darren completed the course in 8:31:29.

Also, taking on the challenge were Graham Lane, with fellow club member Michela Sartori. They both ‘survived’ the day, with Michela finishing in a time of 9 hours 48 minutes and Graham in 10 hours 23 minutes.

Finally, ever-keen supporters of the brilliant parkrun movement, BRR was represented at the following events this weekend:

Barnstaple: Susan Hunt (2nd claim) - 24:38 and 1st LV55
Chipping Norton: Lorna Shawcross – 25:59 and 2nd LV60, Allie Quinn – 38:14, Louise Hamilton-Smith – 38:22.
Newport: Jaq Underwood (2nd claim) – 25:13 and 1st LV55

Highlights
