Swimrun, Peterborough – 19th June 2022

Bourton Roadrunners’ Dr Maxine Emes doesn’t just settle for the easy life of simple road running, although she’s pretty good at it. Having competed in a number of triathlons, she has taken it to the next level with Swimrun, having teaming up with former GB Olympic swimmer Sarah Kerswell about five years ago.

Swimrun originated in Sweden back in 2002, devised by a group of friends around the Stockholm archipelago. Last week Maxine and Sarah braved Peterborough’s River Nene, comprising 30k of running and 9k of swimming. The extraordinary pair finished as first ladies’ team in an incredible time of 6 hours 8 minutes.

Leamington Half Marathon - 26th June 2022

Just a week after running her first half marathon at the Bourton Hilly Half, Rebecca Townsend completed the Leamington Half Marathon. Whilst a new PB of 2 hours 2 seconds, Rebecca was frustrated to have missed her sub-two hour target.

Burrator 10k, South Devon & Welsh Dragon Ride Gran Fondo

Bourton’s veteran runner and cyclist, Graham Lane, finished in the top half of the field at the Burrator 10k, South Devon, in a time of 51:59, which is sub-8½ minutes per mile. This was despite having taken part the previous weekend at the Welsh Dragon Ride Gran Fondo, with fellow club member Michela Sartori. The Grand Fondo event distance was 134 miles with over 12000ft of climbing in and around the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons, with 10 long climbs included Black Mountain, Devil’s Elbow and Rhigos climb, with the longest almost 9 miles long and over 1300 feet of climbing. They both ‘survived’ the day, with Michela finishing in a time of 9 hours 48 minutes and Graham in 10 hours 23 minutes.
