Mendips Classic - 15th July 2024

With only a few established running events being promoted this weekend, Bourton Roadrunners’ Janet Balinski took part in the Mendips Classic cycling festival, which offered a range of distances to choose between.

Janet opted for the long route, which boasted tough climbs as it made its way through 77-miles of the Mendip Hills. She completed the demanding course in a time of six hours, 19 minutes and 22 seconds.

Horton Classic Six - 14th July 2024

Cherwell Runners & Joggers have re-established the Horton Six following a year’s break, with second-claim member Susan Hunt the sole representative from Bourton Roadrunners. Susan completed the six mile undulating rural course, which passes through the picturesque villages of Horton and Horely, in a time of 51 minutes and 54 seconds.

Hope Trail Festival - 13th-14th July 2024

Meanwhile, Linda Edwards travelled to Newnham Park, just outside Plymouth in Devon, where she and a friend took part at the Hope Trail Festival. The 1550 acre country estate provided a five-mile trail course, which individual runners or teams, aimed to cover as may laps as possible within a 12, 24 or 36 hour period.

Having chosen the 12-hour option, Linda completed six laps and her friend Cathy of RSE completed five laps, enabling the pair to achieve 3rd place team within their category.

Thames Footpath Hike - 15th July 2024

Bourton’s John Harding, together with his neighbours, took-on the Thames Footpath Hike for Macmillan. The route should have covered a 26.2 mile marathon distance, but the intrepid gang managed to “lose” half a mile somewhere en-route, completing 25.58 miles in nine hours and eight minutes. Experienced distance runner John said that he was particularly impressed by his incredibly fit and inspirational 80-year old neighbour, Richard.

No weekend would be complete without parkrun, and Bourton Roadrunners were to be found at the following venues:
Cheltenham Pittville Park: Chris Dry - 26:10.
Chipping Norton School: Kate Price - 36:06.
Cirencester Rebecca Townsend - 22:49 (SW20/1), Louise Townsend - 30:58.
Conwy: Tim Carter - 19:00 (VM35/3).
Evesham: Alex Wilson - 26:24.
Stratford-upon-Avon: Susan Hunt - 25:49 (VW55/2).
Tokoinranta, Helsinki: Edward Hare - 20:29 (JM11/1).
Wolford Wood: Dougal Hamilton-Smith - 22:08 (JM15/1), Louise Hamilton-Smith - 29:43 (VW45/1 and course PB) and Liz Hulcup - 29:44 (VW70/1).
