Otter Challenge Ultra - 10th September 2024
Early last Tuesday morning four of Bourton Roadrunners’ women took part in the Otter Challenge, held at Kingsbury Water Park, Warwickshire; an off-road event that offered various distance options ranging from 5Km to an Ultra. The hardy four all opted for the Ultra distance, which had the objective of completing as many 3.3 mile laps of the Water Park as can be achieved within a six hour time limit.
In-form Steph Holton led the Bourton team home, completing 36.3 miles within the allotted time, finishing first woman and second competitor overall, breaking the previous women’s course record with 11 laps.
Louise Hamilton-Smith, Claire Carroll, and Allie Quinn ran most of the multi-terrain course together, enjoying the views of the 15 lakes and the accompanying wildfowl. Despite the weather becoming wet after midday, they completed six laps, giving them 19.8 miles, and still in high-spirits. Louise and Claire were within a few seconds of each other at the finish, while Allie was 22 minutes behind having completed the Great North Run just two days earlier!
