Wimborne 10 Miles - 17th November 2024
Following the disappointment of the cancellation of this year’s Great South Run last month, due to extreme weather condition, Bourton Roadrunners’ Dougal Hamilton-Smith wanted to put his weeks of training to the test at another ten-mile race. Fortunately, he identified the Wimborne 10, which forms part of the Dorset Road Race League and was hosting this year’s Dorset County Championship.
Organised by Wimborne Athletic Club, this ten-mile race was full of quality participants, just what the 18 year old needed to put his training to the test. Dougal maintained a consistent 7-minutes per mile pace throughout and was rewarded with a finishing time of one hour, ten minutes and one second in his first ten mile race.
Speaking afterwards Dougal said he was “thrilled with my first 10-miler, can’t wait for my next race.”
Broadway Half Marathon - 17th November 2024
On the same day Danny Hannig opted to run Broadway Half Marathon which, despite its stunning scenery, is known for providing 13.2 miles of tough trail-running challenge, covering a circular route that is not for the faint-hearted.
Having little time to take in the beauty of the Vale of Evesham and Sudeley Castle, Danny powered on to finish 4th overall in a time of one hour, 39 minutes and 20 seconds. His only comment afterwards was that it was an “absolute killer.”
Newent 9K - 17th November 2024
Meanwhile, Barry O’Leary and Basia Legierska travelled to the Forest of Dean for the Mandy Whittington Newent 9, organised by Newent Runners. This undulating road race was full of country lanes and scenic views, including the historic 13th century town centre.
The Bourton pair ran the 9.5Km route together, finishing in 55 minutes and 45 minutes. Basia said “It was a great run, with a beautiful course and was an absolutely stunning day.”
