Pride Run 10K - 21st September 2024
On 21st September, seven members of Bourton Roadrunners (BRR) headed off to Victoria Park in east London for the annual Pride Run 10K. This is always a popular event and this year was no exception with over 900 runners taking part on a warm, sunny day. The BRR members were part of a 30+ strong team raising funds for Micro Rainbow, an organisation that provides housing and social inclusion support to LGBT refugees. Barry O'Leary, one of BRR's members, is a voluntary director of Micro Rainbow and was delighted that fellow members were willing to travel to support the cause.
It was a successful day for team Micro Rainbow – not only raising much needed funds but also winning the non-running club team prize! The prize is award on the basis of the top three finishers for each team – and in Micro Rainbow’s case this included BRR’s own Peter Carrick and Eva Shoemark. The BRR runners came home as follows: Peter Carrick (40:50), Eva Shoemark (42:27), Barry O’Leary (49:30), Lisa Braid (49:34), Liz Hulcup (1:00:06), Allie Quinn (1:07:48), and Louise Hamilton-Smith (1:07:50).
Chiltern Wonderland 50 - 21st September 2024
Craig Hamilton-Smith fancied a race with something a little more demanding, so he opted for the Chiltern Wonderland 50, which provides a multi-terrain 50 mile loop around the beautiful Chiltern countryside. Organised by Centurion, this challenging race included 5600 feet of climb requiring participants to meet a minimum qualifying standard.
Craig said that he “Enjoyed all of it, scenery was amazing, well worth the months of training and it was brilliantly organised. Would definitely do it again. Thrilled with place, 23rd overall, 3rd in age”. Craig completed this amazing task in a time of nine hours, five minutes and 46 seconds.
Chedworth Roman Trail 10 - 22nd September 2024
The following day, Gilly and Steve Howell ran the Chedworth Roman Trail, a beautifully scenic 10 mile trail race, through quintessential Cotswold countryside, which they said was amazing. Running together, their official times were one hour, 44 minutes and 47 seconds for Steve and one hour 44 minutes and 49 seconds for Gilly, who was first in the women’s vet-60 category.
Vitality London 10K - 22nd September 2024
Meanwhile, John Gibson was the club’s sole representative amongst the more than 15000 runners at this year’s Vitality London 10K. Starting on the Mall and taking in many of the iconic and historical landmarks around the city, before finishing outside Buckingham Palace. Having run in each of the race’s seventeen years, John finished in a steady 55 minutes and 36 seconds, enjoying the support from the large crowds around the course.
