Roundhay Half & 10K - 6th October 2024
This weekend a group of Bourton Roadrunners travelled to Leeds in West Yorkshire, where a running festival was being held within Roundhay Park. This 700 acre city park comprising parkland, woodland and lakes, hosted the event which included a half marathon, 10Km and 5Km options.
Claire and Iain Cox, together with Linda Edwards, opted for the half marathon distance, which was a five-lap route that proved to be beautiful, yet technically challenging in places, with more trail than tarmac surface. Claire finished second LV45 in a time of one hour, 50 minutes and two seconds, while husband Iain was first in the MV60 category in 1:53:03. Linda Edwards had a strong run, finishing first LV60 in 2:13:28.
At the same event, seven club members took on the trail 10Km race, with Steph Holton managing to battle her to achieving first LV60 and fifth woman finisher overall, in a superb time of 50 minutes and 49 seconds. Susan Hunt had a strong run and was first LV55 in 52 minutes and 57 seconds.
Other club members competing in the 10km were Liz Hulcup, who was second LV60 in 56:27, Giles Canning (1:06:08), Gillian James (1:06:09) and Gary Holton (1:08:23). Gritty Gill Carrick, an accomplished runner, having picked-up a hamstring injury and despite finishing last, the objective of gaining “club points” took priority and she completed the course walking in one hour, 39 minutes and 36 seconds, and was still third LV60.
Alcester 10K - 6th October 2024
Meanwhile, at the Alcester 10Km Rebecca Townsend slashed two minutes from her PB, achieving 44 minutes and 27 seconds, despite some undulations. She was joined by Steve and Gilly Howell, who ran together, with Steve recording 52:40 and Gilly 52:42.
Greenwich Park 10K - 6th October 2024
On the same day, John Harding travelled to London for the Greenwich Park 10Km, where he ran with his son Daniel and daughter Laura over the three-lap course. After having run past the Royal Observatory and up to the top of Greenwich Hill, they were rewarded with some of the finest views of London, including the National Maritime Museum and the Old Naval College. John was second in the MV65 category in a time of one hour and 38 seconds.
Cardiff Half Marathon - 6th October 2024
Club member Jaq Underwood ran at this weekend’s Cardiff Half Marathon, where she was joined by a number of her local friends. Jaq ran at a strong and consistent pace, enjoying the great company, to record a very respectable time of one hour, 49 minutes and 20 seconds.
Parkruns - 5th October 2024
This Saturday marked a special landmark for parkrun which was celebrating its 20th anniversary. Notwithstanding the club’s focus on the
trip to Leeds, the group wanted participate in the parkrun celebrations, so a quick detour from the M1 was taken to join others at the Long Eaton parkrun. For the group
it was a doubly special occasion, with member Linda Edward celebrating her 100th parkrun. Susan Hunt perfectly paced a group of runners looking for a sub-28 minute run,
achieving a time of 27:59. Celebrations were concluded with breakfast hosted at the local Rugby Club, where Bakewell was recommended to us by several locals. The full
