Boddington 10 - 26th January 2025
Despite the wet and winding conditions this weekend, local running events were generally able to go ahead, spared from the worst effects of storm Éowyn. These included the Boddington 10 mile event, organised by CLC Striders. Being the first race of this year’s Gloucestershire AAA Road Race Series, a number of Bourton Roadrunners were keen to earn early competition points.
Darren Long was the club’s first member to finish with a strong performance of one hour, four minutes and seven seconds. He was followed by Maxine Emes (1:15:39), Claire Cox (1:17:09), Iain Cox (1:24:25), Tony Goodwill (1:24:53), Graham Lane (1:29:53) and Liz Hulcup (1:33:46), who was first woman in the LV70 category.
They were also joined by second-claim member Kevin Goodwill, who was representing Cheltenham & County Harriers, and had a brilliant race finishing in a time of one hour, six minutes and 24 seconds.
Shipston IX - 26th January 2025
The inaugural Shipston IX, which replaces the former ‘Not the Roman IX’ event, also drew a couple of keen BRR members.
In-form Rebecca Townsend took-on the challenging 12K course, giving a stunning performance of one hour, two minutes and 26 seconds, and finished third Senior Female. She was joined by Linda Edwards, who battled through the wind and rain to finish in 1:29:50.
Fladbury Festive 5 - 26th January 2025
On the same day the re-scheduled Fladbury Festive 5, a victim of the previous disruptive storm system, was held in support of Maggs Day Centre in Fladbury.
Bourton’s Jenny Evanson fancied this five mile, multi-terrain, event along the banks of the River Avon, through the villages of Fladbury and Lower Moor, in Worcestershire. She too braved the elements, finishing in a time of one hour, 16 minutes and 42 seconds.
Presentation to Charities - 21st January 2025
On Tuesday evening of the same week, after one of the club’s training sessions, members gathered at the Leisure Centre, Bourton-on-the-Water, to present cheques to the charities supported by the three Bourton Roadrunners Club organised races of 2024. The surplus from these races was donated to Cure Parkinsons, Headspace, and Kates Home Nursing.
