Great South Run - 19th October 2025
This weekend runners were spoilt for choice when it came to race events and distances. For Dougal Hamilton-Smith and his mother Louise it was the Great South Run, where the nineteen year-old stuck to his plan over the ten miles and achieved a creditable one hour, seven minutes and 36 seconds, amongst a large and competitive field at Portsmouth.
Louise battled the wind and rain, taking in the sights around the historic docks and was pleased with her 1:37:05.
Yorkshire Marathon and Yorkshire 10 - 19th October 2025
There were also a number of marathons to choose between this weekend, and training partners Lisa Braid and Michela Sartori ventured to York for the Yorkshire Marathon and Yorkshire 10.
Marathons offer a range of challenges in addition to the 26.2 mile distance and Lisa felt she had ghosts to bury. Taking on one of the country’s leading marathons in tough weather conditions Lisa acquitted herself brilliantly with a time of four hours, eight minutes and 57 seconds.
Meanwhile, Michela, herself an experienced distance runner, opted for the 10 mile race where she achieved a strong 1:25:17.
Abingdon Marathon - 19th October 2025
Ultra runner Kevin Goodwill selected the Abingdon Marathon as a ‘training run’ ahead of his next long distance challenge, where he achieved a very respectable three hours, 25 minutes and seven seconds.
Goodwood Half Marathon - 19th October 2025
Meanwhile, Claire Carroll ventured to the Goodwood Half Marathon, held around the classic motor racing circuit, located at the foot of the Sussex Downs. Claire was rewarded for her hard training with a time of two hours, two minutes and 37 seconds, together with achieving first woman in the FV60 category.
Lightning Bolt 10k - 19th October 2025
Nearer to home, there were a number of club firm-favourite 10Km events taking place. Three Bourton Roadrunners took part in fifth race of the Lightning Bolt 10k series at Chippenham.
Niamh Shoemark continued to impress with a stunning 41 minutes and 33 seconds, achieving second in the FV55 category, ahead of husband Ian in 42:44. They were joined by Claire Cox who achieved a respectable 45:30.

Ilmington 10k, Series Race 1 - 19th October 2025
Another firm club favourite is the Ilmington 10k Winter Series, however this year’s series kicked off with a necessary course modification due to essential road works, leading to a shorter version of the course.
Bourton’s in-form Tim Hemming gave a strong performance, achieving a time of 35:53 and earning second place in the MV55 category. Meanwhile, Gillian Carrick finished in 51:02.
