Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire -

London Marathon - 27th April 2025

This weekend four Bourton Roadrunners joined a field of 56,000 other runners of all abilities for the 45th London Marathon. Whilst the weather conditions were very pleasant for the spectators, the heat proved difficult for many participants.

Bourton’s Peter Carrick was the first club member to complete the 26.2 mile course in a time of 3 hours, 19 minutes and 6 seconds. He was closely followed by Kevin Goodwill in 3:24:41, who was running for the Headspace charity, just two weeks after running at the Newport Marathon.

Louise Hamilton-Smith, running for the Phab charity, finished in 4:53:07 and Allie Quinn, running for Well Child, finished in 5:02:47, with both battling the heat in the latter stages.

Manchester Marathon - 27th April 2025

A further group from the club travelled north, for the Manchester Marathon, where Ėva Shoemark shone, earning a new personal best time of 3 hours, 20 minutes and 38 seconds.

She was followed by Alex Pye in 3:22:40 and Rebecca Townsend in 3:27:12 – also a new personal best. Barry O’Leary ran with Basia Legierska, with Barry in 4:43:43 and Basia 4:43:44.

Stratford-Upon-Avon Marathon and Half Marathon - 27th April 2025

Stratford-Upon-Avon was also hosting its annual marathon and half marathon this weekend. Claire Cox opted for the Shakespeare Marathon, narrowly missing a sub-four hour result, finishing in 4:00:18.

Meanwhile, Andrew Peaston ran in the Shakespeare Half, finishing in 1:48:54 and Susan Hunt, who was an official race pacer, finished on-cue in 2:18:39.

Hospice of the Valleys 6 - 27th April - 2025

Fancying something different, Jaq Underwood run at the Hospice of the Valleys 6 mile race, set in the scenic grounds of Parc Bryn Bach, where she achieved a fine 49 minutes and 49 seconds.

Parkrun - 26th April 2025

No weekend would be complete without parkrun and Bourton Roadrunners could be found at the following venues:

Cirencester: Niamh Shoemark - 22:24 (VW55/1), Liz Hulcup - 27:07 (VW70/1), Tom Knight - 30:49.
King George V Playing Field, Cheltenham: Chris Dry - 27:30.
Newport, Wales: Jaq Underwood - 28:44 (VW55/3).
Southall, Uxbridge: Susan Hunt - 26:20 (VW60/1).
Stratford-upon-Avon: George Swayne - 19:06 (SM18/1), Ian Tolfts - 22:01 (Course PB).

Highlights

This weekend Bourton were represented at London, Manchester and Shakespeare marathons, Shakespeare Half, Hospice of the Valleys 6 and parkrun.

Ėva and Rebecca achieved PBs at Manchester Marathon, while Kevin ran his second marathon in as many weeks, so well done to them.
