Condicote Village Four-stage Relay - 9th February 2025

One of the highlights of this weekend for Bourton Roadrunners was the club’s four-stage relay race, starting and finishing at the beautiful village of Condicote in the north Cotswolds. There were 50 members organised into 13 teams, with each runner covering two one-mile loops around the surrounding countryside.

Whilst the event was held as part of the club’s own competition series, with times translating into points, the wider aim was to provide an event to enable runners of all abilities to race alongside and support each other. Members were also keen to support the Cotswold Food Bank by donating items of need, and the response was outstanding.

Whilst there were many notable performances, including Alex Pye having the fastest overall time of 11 minutes and two seconds, and Steph Lane the fastest lady in 11:32, each and every runner added something special to the mix. John Conway, who joined the club through its couch-to-5k program, gave a true-grit performance, acknowledging the support on his way round. As did new member Dorcas Guillebaud, running in her first club event. And there was still an opportunity for the father and son rivalry between Dougal Hamilton-Smith (11:58) and his father Craig (12:09), with youth just having the edge in the final sprint for the line.

Birmingham Cross Country League - 8th February 2025

The day before, Kevin Goodwill had also run in the Birmingham League Cross Country at Wolverhampton. Kevin was impressed by the sheer quality of the field and said that the course was “crazy tough”, but he was still pleased with his time of 45 minutes and 22 seconds for this demanding 6.1 mile race.
