Hawkstones 5K and 10K - Wednesday 8th July 2026
A busy racing week got underway on a very warm Wednesday evening with the Hawkstones 5K and 10K around the villages of Upper and Lower Slaughter. In the 5Km race it was Bourton Roadrunners’ in-form Steph Lane who set a blistering pace, finishing first overall in a time of 17 minutes and 47 seconds.
Steph was joined by Arianna Downs - 22:36 (SL/3), Oliver Craughwell - 25:19 (VM40/3), Mia Townsend (38:36) and Carolyn Coleman (35:47).
In the 10Km race Kevin Goodwill (2nd claim member) provided a strong performance over the undulating course with a time of 42 minutes and 51 seconds.
He was joined by Claire Cox, who also had a great run achieving 48:44 (LV40/2), Jaq Underwood - 51:51 (LV60/1), Claire Carroll - 57:46 (LV60/2), Jemma Franzmann - 61:32, Janice Townsend - 75:28 running with Annie - 75:30. Liz Hulcup ran as the race’s tail-marker, recording 80:40.
Coombe Abbey Park Summer 10K - Friday 10th July 2026
On Friday evening Melissa Samuel travelled to Coventry for the Coombe Abbey Park Summer 10K. Although the temperature provided another brutally hot day, Melissa managed to knock 17 minutes from her 2025 event time. Look out Great North Run she is on her way.
Banyoles Duathlon Championships, Spain - Saturday 11th July 2026
Further afield, Darren Long travelled to Spain, which has also been experiencing hot weather, for the Banyoles Duathlon Championships, incorporating a 10Km run, 40Km cycle and a 5Km run. Darren always commits 100% and delivered a total time of 2 hours, 14 minutes and 16 seconds – a full five minutes reduction from his performance at the National Championships back in March.
Black Mountains Half marathon - Sunday 12th July 2026
Pippa Marsden took-on the Black Mountains Half marathon on Saturday, which incorporated 4000 feet of elevations, with lots of it proving to be “un-runnable”. This self-timed event was all about the challenge, rather than the time, surviving the heat and celebrating her birthday!
Holbrook Hill Race - Sunday 12th July 2026
Also looking for a challenge was Michela Sartori at the Holbrook Hill Race in Derbyshire; a 5 mile multi-terrain event in support of Pancreatic Cancer. The run incorporated some tough climbs, but Michela survived the heat to record a time of 45 minutes and 34 seconds.
Upton Triathlon - Sunday 12th July 2026
Megan Ratcliffe and Graham Lane took-on the Upton Triathlon again this year, with both achieving faster times than in 2025. Megan knocked-off a full 18 minutes, recording 2 hours, 59 minutes and 20 seconds, while Graham achieved 3:42:54. Both achieved first position in their respective age-categories.
Compton Verney 10K and Half - Sunday 12th July 2026
Three Bourton runners travelled to the Compton Verney 10K and Half marathon on Sunday. Lisa Braid took part in the 10Km race where she recorded a strong 52 minutes and 36 seconds.
Meanwhile, Claire Carroll and Jaq Underwood took-on the half marathon, running together in a time 2 hours, 10 minutes and 39 seconds, with Claire achieving FV55/3.
Parkrun - Saturday 11th July 2026
Of course, no weekend would been complete without a Parkrun, and this week Bourton Roadrunners could be found at the following venues:

Clumber Park, Nottinghamshire: Michela Sartori – 26:20 (VW45/2).
Dulwich: Eva Shoemark – 28:12.
Evesham: Duncan Lambourne – 39:03.
Fire Service College, Moreton-in-Marsh: Paul Delicata – 23:25 (VM45/2), John Harding – 28:13 (VM65/2).
Kilkenny Lane Country: Claire Louise Carroll – 27:14 (VW60/1).
Stratford-upon-Avon: Kevin Goodwill – 22:13, Rebecca Townsend – 23:39.
Western Springs, Auckland, New Zealand: Edward Hare – (2nd overall and JM15/1).
Wexford Racecourse, Ireland: Ian Shoemark – 21:51 (VM55/1), Niamh Shoemark – 22:19 (VW55/1 and 2nd woman overall).
