Gloucester 10K & Half Marathon - Sunday 22nd March 2026

With Spring in the air several Bourton Roadrunners were drawn to Gloucester this weekend for the Gloucester 10K and Half Marathon, where they joined thousands of other runners enjoying the sunshine and the beautiful city backdrop. The club had incorporated the event into its own race competition, thereby providing an added incentive.

It was Niamh Shoemark who was the club’s star of the day, swiftly navigating the 10Km course in an impressive time of 42 minutes and 40 seconds, finishing second woman overall and claiming the prize for first woman in the LV55 category. She was followed Ian Tolfts in 46:38, who was rewarded with a new personal best (PB) time. Also impressive was Jaq Underwood’s performance of 50:19 and LV55/2 (her third event of the weekend).

Other Bourton Roadrunners, all of whom gave their best, included Barry O’Leary (50:48), Claire Blackie (51:30), Robin Smith (52:19), Vivien D’Alton (54:13), Lee Smith (54:59), John Gibson (57:06 - MV70/2) who was running with his friend Allie Quinn (smashing her PB by one minutes 23 seconds, also in 57:06), Lynn Hudson (65:31 - LV70/1) and Jenny Evanson (76:01).

In the Half Marathon Dougal Hamilton-Smith was shaking-off the remains of a cold, finishing in a respectable one hour, 42 minutes and 20 seconds. Also running were second-claim members Cal Winwood (representing Western Tempo), who gave an impressive performance of 1:15:51 (20th overall from 3700 runners); Kevin Goodwill (Cheltenham & County Harriers) in 1:28:35; and Linda Edwards (RSE) in 2:14:37.

Spring Equinox 6m Trail Run - Saturday 21st March 2026

The previous day, Jaq Underwood had explored Wentwood Forest, running the Spring Equinox 6m Trail Run.

Run over forestry tracks and bridleways, this forest is part of the largest block of ancient woodland in Wales. Having completed a Parkrun that morning, and the Gloucester 10K scheduled for Sunday, Jaq tempered her effort completing the six miles in 56 minutes and 22 seconds, but was rewarded with LW50/2.
