The Virtual Virgin London Marathon – 4th October 2020

Never in living memory have our sporting and every-day lives been so affected by a world-wide event as that experienced by millions these last few months. Despite this the world has learned to adapt somewhat, enabling us to continue with certain things that are important to us and society.

In parallel with forty-six thousand other runners world-wide, four of Bourton Roadrunners’ members took on the challenge of the Virtual London Marathon (VVLM). Jenni Glass took-on a route that was far from flat. After a few months of niggling injuries, she had a fantastic run completing the 26.2 miles in a new personal best time of 3:47:30.

Susan Hunt decided to tackle two events in a single run: the VVLM plus the Black Country Ultra. The 33 mile ultra was run on a canal towpath, through tunnels and on a disused railway line. She was accompanied by Linda Edwards (2nd claim member). Susan finished in 6:15:59, but would have been quicker if ‘nature’ hadn't called. Linda in her first ultra race finished in 6:49:24. This was also a great achievement for Linda, who only last week ran the Goodwood Marathon in 4:26, comprising 11-laps around the race track with only the wind for company.

Kate Price, another 2nd claim member set off in the rain on Sunday with her husband and fellow BRR members for company. Kate was raising money for Cancer Research UK, a charity close to her heart as she in undergoing treatment. Again, another hilly route with Kate being overjoyed to complete the distance in 7:21:05 and celebrated with a bottle of bubbly.
