Great North Run - 11th September 2022

Following the death of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II last week, a number of sporting events were understandably cancelled this weekend as a mark of the nation’s respect. However, after careful consideration, a late decision was made that the Great North Run would go ahead, albeit with some modifications.

Bourton Roadrunners’ veteran runner John Gibson joined 60,000 others for the 13.1 mile undulating course between Newcastle city centre and South Shields seafront. Despite a somewhat sombre tone before the start, in keeping with the nation’s sentiments, and the absence of the Red Arrows this year, there was still a wonderful North East welcome throughout. John was pleased with his 1 hour, 53 minutes and 51 seconds for his 28th Great North and was touched by local supporters’ warmth and kindness.

Kenilworth Half Marathon - 11th September 2022

Bourton’s second-claim member Susan Hunt also took on the same distance at the Kenilworth Half Marathon, which follows an undulating out and back course from the town centre, heading through the castle and along quiet country lanes with the first and last part on the Town main street. Susan, who had been at parkrun the day before, completed the course in 1 hour, 53 minutes and 37 seconds.

Parkruns

Cardiff: Ali Tighe – 31:36.
Cheltenham Pittville Park: Chris Dry – 27:57.
