Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire -

Bugatti 10k - 10th August 2022

As one of Gloucestershire’s popular summer evening race events, the Bugatti 10k, jointly organised by Almost Athletes and Cheltenham Harriers, has a challenging finish at the Bugatti Hill Climb.

Bourton Roadrunners had four members taking part in the event, including Darren Long, fresh from his duathlon last week, who finished in a great time of 41:33 and was 2nd MV50. Bourton’s first BRR lady to finish was Niamh Shoemark in a time of 46:58, with Niamh achieving 1st LV50/1. Following hot on her heels was Maxine Emes in a time of 47:48 (3rd LV40), with second-claim member Susan Hunt, who struggled in the heat, finishing in a respectable 53:47 to claim 3rd LV55.

Solihull Half Marathon - 14th August 2022

A number of the club’s members are preparing themselves for the London and York marathons, seeking out a few longer races to assist them in gauging their desired race-pace ahead of their big day. So what better than to choose the Solihull Half Marathon on one of the hottest days of the year?

For Barry O’Leary, who is readying himself for his first marathon at the London Marathon in October, it was also an opportunity to re-visit the area of his childhood and was joined by his brother. Barry succeeded in getting his pace just right, making short-work of the endless climbs, to finish in a respectable two hours, five minutes and 59 seconds. Barry was followed by Liz Hulcup, who is also preparing for London Marathon, working hard throughout the race to finish in 2:09:52 in very difficult conditions, claiming 3rd LV65.

Next was Allie Quinn, who is preparing for her first marathon at York in October, managed to keep her mind in the zone by videoing sections of the course and providing her social groups with a real-time account of the conditions and her progress. Whilst she was disappointed with her time of 2:25:26, Allie thoroughly enjoyed her race and managed to outrun club mate John Gibson at the finish, who struggled to finish in 2:26:23. Husband and wife Gary and Steph Holton, like John, battled with the heat in the latter stages but showed their determination and teamwork, completing the challenging course in 2:31:57.

London to Paris Cycle Ride - August 2022

The club has several members who enjoy taking part in a range of other sporting events, particularly cycling. A group from the club joined other cyclists, to take on the challenge of cycling from London to Paris. This took four days, covering just over 250 miles. This hardy group consisted of Graham Lane, Gillian James, Jonathan Willson, Margaret Hollamby and Alan Thomas. A brilliant effort all-round; congratulations to them.
