Angels 10k - 18th September 2022

As the Gloucestershire AAA County Road Race series nears its conclusion, with its penultimate race this weekend at the ever-popular Angels 10k, there were also County medals to be won as this race was also a County Championship event. Starting and finishing at the Woodpecker Cricket Club, Ashleworth, Bourton Roadrunners Club had ten runners amongst a highly competitive field of 98 finishers, over the undulating course.

Bourton’s Darren Long had a great run, finishing in 39 minutes and 11 seconds, and was 1st in the MV50 category, winning a Championship gold medal, and is currently 2nd overall within his age category in the County Series. Bourton’s first lady to finish was Maxine Emes, in a time of 45 minutes and 54 seconds, and was 2nd LV40, winning the County silver medal. Maxine is also still well-position for a medal in the County Series.

Next to finish for Bourton was Ian Tolfts, who had been battling throughout the race with fellow club members Lorna Shawcross and club chairman Chris Dry. Ian managed to come out on top in a time of 50:47, with Lorna achieving a very respectable 50:50 and winning the County silver medal for the LV60 category. Chris was narrowly beaten, yet achieved a season's best time of 51:09; always a great achievement.

Other Bourton Roadrunners included Liz Hulcup in 54:07 (2nd LV65 and County silver); Gill Carrick 57:37; Linda Edwards, a 2nd claim member, 60:56 (2nd LV55 and County silver); Louise Hamilton-Smith, who in training for the Yorkshire Marathon, finished in 61:47 and Jenny Evanson, in her first county race, finished in 79.58 and achieved bronze medal.
