Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire -

Stroud Half Marathon - 23rd October 2022

This weekend saw the 40th anniversary of the Stroud Half Marathon; always a popular event for keen runners across the Cotswolds, even though it is not a flat course.

In the hours leading up to the race start the weather had been foul, with a torrential downpour, which only ceased five minutes before the start. Bourton Roadrunner’s Lorna Shawcross, known for her resilience, completed the 13.1 mile course in a fine time of one hour, fifty minutes and fifty-five seconds, despite a further heavy shower at the eight-mile climb.

When the sunshine finally appeared, Lorna was able to enjoy her new big PB and the honour of being 2nd LV60.

Northumberland Castle Half Marathon - 23rd October 2022

Meanwhile, over 300 miles further north, Bourton’s second-claim member Linda Edwards was taking-on the challenges of the Northumberland Castle Half Marathon. Set in the historic village of Bamburgh and having a stunning backdrop of its castle, this single-loop route over closed roads between Bamburgh and North Sunderland had a few undulations thrown-in to complement lots of flat sections.

The real reward being the wonderful views across to the Farne Islands, Holy Island and the North Sea. Linda was pleased with her time of 2 hours and 14 minutes, using it as a training run ahead of the La Rochelle Marathon at the end of November.
