Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire -

Great Bristol 10k - 25th September 2022

Sunday morning saw the return of the Great Bristol 10k, which is part of the Great Run Race Series and draws thousands of runners of all abilities. It was also hosting a UK Athletics’ Masters contest between England and Wales. Starting in the city centre, it passed the waterfront, crossing onto Spike Island, through Wapping Warf, and looping Queen Square at the half way point, then cross over into Redcliffe rounding Castle Park before a grandstand finish on Anchor Road.

Bourton Roadrunners’ veteran Niamh Shoemark was selected to represent England and acquitted herself brilliantly in a time of 42 minutes and 36 seconds, finishing 10th in her age-group. Niamh said afterwards “I was happy enough with my time, but there’s still room for further improvement”; Bourton Roadrunners are very proud of you Niamh. Niamh’s husband Ian was also running, navigating his way through the crowded field of runners, to narrowly pip her at the finish in a time of 42:23; no supper for Ian Sunday night!

Ealing Half Marathon - 25th September 2022

Meanwhile, Bourton’s Claire Carroll was putting the final touches to her training in readiness for the Yorkshire Marathon, in three weeks, by running the Ealing Half Marathon. She was the club’s sole representative in this event, which comprised a single lap, starting and finishing at Lammas Park. The route took in Central Ealing, Montpelier, Pitshanger, West Ealing, Hanwell and St. Stephens. Claire was pleased with her time of two hours, seven minutes and 32 seconds, having recovered from injuries and Covid in recent months.

Llanelli Half Marathon - 25th September 2022

Bourton’s second-claim member Jaq Underwood, who is also finalising her marathon preparation in readiness for the London Marathon next weekend, took part in the Llanelli Half Marathon. Starting at Parc Y Scarlets, which is home to legendary Scarlets rugby team, with the runners passing the Ray Gravell statue and then onto the Millennium Coastal Path, finishing back at the stadium. Jaq completed the run in a very respectable one hour, forty-five minutes and forty seconds and was 3rd LV55.
