Valencia Marathon, Spain - 4th December 2022

Many asked why Bourton Roadrunner Darren Long was not amongst the club faithful running in the London Marathon this year. Those close to the athlete knew that having set his personal best time at the Seville Marathon in 2020, he wanted to return to Spain to try the popular Valencia Marathon, and enjoy the December sunshine this year, especially having just moved-up to the Vet-50 age category.

Despite a bottle-neck at the race start, Darren soon got into his stride of sub-seven minutes per mile over the full 26.2 mile course, finishing well up the field in an impressive two hours, 53 minutes and 59 seconds.

Meanwhile, with cooler weather to contend with, ten club members joined many other keen parkrun enthusiasts, ahead of the Club’s Ceilidh prize giving evening on Saturday, at the following locations:

Kingsbury Water Park: Barry O’Leary – 23:38 (course PB and MV50/3).
Newport, South Wales: Jaq Underwood (2nd claim) – 25:30 (LV55/2).
