Christmas Cracker 10k - 10th December 2023
The Weston-Super-Mare Christmas Cracker 10k might not be everyone’s idea of how to spend a Sunday morning, but given that it was its 35th anniversary this year means that Weston Athletics Club must be doing something right to attract over 1200 runners on a windy December morning.
With roughly 7½k run along the beach using loops, with the remainder run over a tarmac surface, the going was hard at times, despite being flat. Bourton Roadrunners’ Darren Long and Maxine Emes, joined the large field, many of whom were wearing festive costumes. The pair ran together, with Maxine achieving 2nd in the VW40 category in a very respectable 49:55 and Darren 49:56.
Parkrun - 9th December 2023
Meanwhile, Saturday with its inclement weather conditions led to a number of parkrun events being cancelled, resulting in only the very
keenest diehards getting their 5k-fix this week. They were:
Cheltenham Pittville Park: Chris Dry – 31:31.
Warwick Racecourse: Susan Hunt - 26:30 (WV55/2) – well done Susan, just a week after the Valencia Marathon.
Highlights
Any early festive event for Darren and Maxine, at the Weston-Super-Mare Christmas Cracker 10k, where Maxine was 2nd WV40.
Christmas Cracker 10k celebrated its 35th anniversary, drawing over 1200 runners.
Susan ran the Warwick Racecourse parkrun in 26:30, just a week after Valencia, earning her WV55/2.
