Bugatti 10k - 9th August 2023

It has been a busy racing week for Bourton Roadrunners, starting last Wednesday with the Bugatti 10k, part of the Gloucestershire AAA County Road Race series. This annual event is organised by Cheltenham’s Almost Athletes and hosted by the Bugatti Owners Club at the Prescott Hill Climb, near Gotherington.

Bourton Roadrunners had eight members taking part in what proved to be a very warm evening. Peter Carrick was first to finish the challenging course for the club in a time of 40 minutes and 29 seconds, 19th overall from a field of 272 finishers. Next back was in-form Tom Hitchman in 42:03, closely shadowed by Darren Long (42:22) in his first race since recovering from Covid. The continually improving Finn Shoemark had a splendid race, finishing in 43:05, staying ahead of mum Niamh Shoemark. Niamh was Bourton’s first lady in a time of 46:16 and was rewarded with 1st LV55. Liz Hulcup is always looking to see-off the competition secured 1st LV70 in a fine time of 59:18. Close on her heals was Gill Carrick in 59:29 and Imogen Cox, in only her second 10k race, finished in 70:12.

Solihull Half Marathon and 10k - 13th August 2023

By contrast, 9am on Sunday provided a cool start for the Solihull Half Marathon and 10k, which was blessed with the presence of many local residents out in support around the undulating course that ventures out to Knowle before returning to Solihull. Bourton had three members taking part in the half marathon this year.

Louise Hamilton-Smith saw the rewards of her training in readiness for this year’s New York City Marathon, leading the team home in two hours, six minutes and 58 seconds, earning herself a PB. Next to finish, in her second race of the week, was Liz Hulcup who achieved 2:08:20, beating her time from last year. For Barry O’Leary it was a return to his home turf and despite recovering from injury was pleased to complete the 13.1 miles in 2:10:22.

Also recovering from injury was Allie Quinn, who opted for the 10k race to get her training back on course for New York, was pleased to finish in 74 minutes and 54 seconds.

Parkruns- 12th August 2023

Cheltenham Pittville Park: John Harding – 25:13 (MV65/2 course PB), Chris Dry: 28:09.
Chipping Norton: Matt Price – 26:40 (SM30/3).
Cirencester: Gillian James – 33:30, Lynn Hudson – 33:32 (LV65/2 course PB).
Evesham: Imogen Cox – 32:15, Giles Canning – 32:16.
Stratford-upon-Avon: Pete Carrick – 18:13 (SM25/2), Steph Holton – 23:21 (LV55/3 course PB), Gill Carrick – 27:12 (LV60/1).
Tetbury Goods Shed: Dougal Hamilton-Smith – 20:02 (SM15-17/2), Louise Hamilton-Smith – 51:22.
Wolford Wood: Liz Hulcup – 57:19 as tail-walker.

Highlights

Peter Carrick led the Bourton team home at Bugatti 10k in 40:29. Niamh (LV55/1) and Liz (LV70/1) were among the prize winners.

Louise, Liz and Barry completed the Solihull Half, with Louise earning a PB. Allie completed the 10k at the same venue.
