Oxford Half Marathon – 15th October 2023

Despite this year’s road racing season nearing its end, this weekend provided opportunities, both locally and further afield, to take part in popular events for runners of all abilities.

For Bourton Roadrunners’ Kevin Goodwill and Rebecca Townsend it was the classic Oxford Half Marathon that held the appeal. Kevin returning to racing following recovery from a broken leg picked up while playing football, had patiently prepared for this event and was pleased to finish, with his parents eagerly watching, in a time of one hour, 42 minutes and 11 seconds.

Also racing with a very specific target in mind was Rebecca Townsend, having previously made a number of attempts to complete the 13.1 mile distance in under two hours. Rebecca was pleased to smash her target, achieving 1:52:27, almost eight minutes inside her PB.

Bath Half Marathon - 15th October 2023

Meanwhile, Louise Hamilton-Smith and Allie Quinn are both in the final stages of their preparation for this year’s New City Marathon in just over two weeks, decided to run in the Bath Half Marathon, which like Oxford attracted over 9000 runners.

Both have been dedicated yet disciplined in following tailored training schedules, working round work commitments and the challenges posed by injury, and both maintained their target pace. Louise finished in 2:17:54 while Allie achieved 2:34:04.

Parkruns- 7th October 2023

The club had members present at a number of parkrun events this weekend, providing a forum for those just wanting to experience exercise at whatever pace one choses. Whilst not a race, it still provides an opportunity for brotherly competition, with Thomas and William Harvey, both in the 11-14 year age category, testing their abilities at Chipping Norton School. It was Thomas who again proved he had the edge, finishing first overall in 19 minutes and 36 seconds, while William finished in 5th place in a fine 21:37.

Others members visited parkrun events at:
