Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire -

Angels 10k – 17th September 2023

After the recent mini heat wave, Sunday morning presented a grey overcast start to the day. However, it provided excellent running conditions for the annual Angels 10k, which started and finished at the Woodpeckers Cricket Club, in Ashleworth village. An exciting and undulating course, providing runners great views of the Cotswolds, Malvern Hills and the River Severn.

Bourton Roadrunners had 15 members taking part in this Gloucestershire AAA Road Race event. First home for the club was Darren Long in a time of 41 minutes and 31 seconds. Close on his heels giving chase throughout the race was in-form Niamh Shoemark, who finished in 42:54 and was first LV55.

Dougal Hamilton-Smith, taking part in his first 10k race as a senior, had a brilliant run in 44:07, just three places behind the experienced Niamh. Next to finish was Steph Holton, currently in marathon training, in a time of 48:05 and LV55/2.

Other Bourton Roadrunners were Chris Dry (50:18), Lorna Shawcross (51:30, LV60/3), John Harding (52:16), Basia Legierska (52:22, LV40/3), Lee Hutton (53:00), Liz Hulcup (56:42, LV70/3), Clementine Bright (57:40, SL/3), Louise Hamilton-Smith, also in marathon training (65:28), Imogen Cox (68:45).

Special mention should go to Jenny Evanson (73:50), who was delighted with having reduced her previous PB by nearly four minutes and to Val McKay (75:35), who had only finished a couch-to-5k course last year.

Pride 10k, London - 16th September 2023

The previous day saw the popular Pride 10k, held at East London’s beautiful Victoria Park, providing a flat, fast 3-lap course. The run is known for its fun and inclusive atmosphere, was this year supporting the charity Micro Rainbow International, organised by volunteers from London Frontrunners.

Bourton Roadrunners had two members supporting this popular event, with Peter Carrick having a brilliant run finishing in 39:50, while Barry O’Leary returning from injury, had a fine run in 55:31.
