Shoemark and Hulcup Win Silver at County 5Km Championship

Last Wednesday Gloucester Athletic Club hosted the popular Haresfield 5Km road race; part of the Gloucestershire Road Race Series and the County Championships for 5Km. While unattached runner Glen Stallard and Bristol & West’s Ben Robinson were battling it out for the lead, runners of all ages from across Gloucestershire were entertaining the crowd on a sunny evening, gathering at the Beacon Inn, Haresfield.

Bourton Roadrunners had six runners challenging for points and medals, Darren Long, still recovering from Covid, was the club's first runner to finish in a time of 19 minutes and 37 seconds. Niamh Shoemark was close behind in 21:20, winning the silver medal for the Women-55 category. Multi-discipline athlete Maxime Emes achieved a fine 22:33, while Tony Goodwill finished in 25:38. Liz Hulcup won the silver medal in Women-70 category in a brilliant time of 26:05. Gill Carrick had a fine running finishing in 27:49.

Two Railway Tunnels 10k - 20th August 2023

or something slightly different, two Bourton Roadrunners took on the Two Tunnels 10km, which cuts right under the City of Bath and boasts being the longest underground 10km in the UK. It certainly offers a unique running experience, first taking in the 408m Devonshire Railway Tunnel followed by the 1672m Combe Down Tunnel. Both tunnels were lit and well surfaced, providing “a welcome relief to the head” for Bourton Roadrunners’ Janice Townsend and Annie Oliver, who ran together and finished in 1.13.29 and 1.13,35 and were rewarded with a great medal.
