Bourton 10k - 26th February 2023

On a bright but sharp Sunday morning, Bourton Roadrunners played host to over 600 runners from around the country for its annual Bourton10k race. In addition to being popular amongst runners for its fast and flat course, the club prides itself in providing valuable funds for local charities from the proceeds.

The race was won by Richard De Camps of Gloucester AC in a time of 31 minutes and 43 seconds, ahead of Andrew Chambers in 31:48 (unattached) and Will Perkin of Thames Valley Harriers in 31:51. The first woman was Ella Burfitt in 35:50, ahead of Nicole Frith in 36:21; both of Cheltenham & County Harriers, and Naomi Eaton of Weston Tempo in 37:44. Wheelchair racer Les Hampton from Cheltenham & County Harriers provided an inspiring performance finishing in 49:24.

Nine Bourton Roadrunners also ran, with Darren Long leading the club’s contingent home in a time of 37:35, and was 2nd MV50. Next to finish was Chris Nesbitt who had a strong run in 38:30, followed by Alex Pye in a new PB time of 39:50. Niamh Shoemark, wife of race director Ian, completed the 10k course in 42:00 and was 2nd LV55, chased by her daughter Eva in her first 10k achieving a brilliant 42:24. These were followed by Alan Gibson (50:06), Rebecca Townsend (50:37), Barry O’Leary (51:05) and Chris Lynch (64:53).

Special thanks go to Neil Teague who led the competitors around the course on his bicycle. Whilst unknown to the runners and most of the officials, he detected a puncture in his front tyre as the runners were heading to the start area. Unfazed by such calamities, local resident Neil quickly took his bicycle home, effected the repair and was back ready for the off before the pre-race announcements were completed! You are a star Neil.
