Cheltenham Half Marathon & 10k - 3rd September 2023
Joining just over 2000 keen runners early on Sunday morning at the Cheltenham Half Marathon were three Bourton Roadrunners. Eva Shoemark, who is in training for the Chester Marathon next month, led the club home in a brilliant time of one hour, 35 minutes and 32 seconds, and finishing eighth senior woman.
Kevin Goodwill, back in training after recovering from a football-related broken-leg, was pleased to complete the 13.1 miles in 1:54:08. Completing the Bourton contingent was Rebecca Townsend, demonstrating her strength and digging deep to finish in 2:12:10.
Returning to racing after a period of absence was Mary Worker, also planning for a half marathon, opted for the Cheltenham 10k event, where running with a friend, completed the challenge in a very respectable one hour, 11 minutes and 48 seconds.
Stratford Half Marathon - 3rd September 2023
On the same day, thee club members took part in the Stratford Half Marathon. Whilst a smaller event, it was no less competitive leading to some fast finishing times. Maxine Emes led the club home in one hour, 42 minutes and 58 seconds, finishing first lady in the veteran-35 category.
Lorna Shawcross had a fine run over the challenging course, finishing in 1:59:50. Maxine and Lorna were joined by second-claim member Susan Hunt, who can be found racing most weekends, completed the 13.1 miles in a very respectable 1:52:58.
Parkruns- 2nd September 2023
Saturday was of course parkrun day, and Bourton Roadrunners was represented at range of venues, including:
Bushy Park: Janet Balinski – 27:28.
Cheltenham Pittville Park: Chris Dry – 27:18.
Cirencester: Liz Hulcup – 26:04 (LV70/1).
Evesham: Susan Hunt – 26:59 (LV55/2 - 27 minute pacer), Val McKay – 31:33 (LV60/3), Imogen Cox – 31:37 (course PB).
Leamington: Sharon Rees – 32:46, Lorna Shawcross – 32:47.
Seaford Beach: Rob Williams – 27:10.
Witney: Dougal Hamilton-Smith - 20.44 (course PB and JM15-17/2).
Highlights
Congratulations to Maxine for finishing 1st LV35 at Stratford Half Marathon (1:42:58).
Eva was 8th Senior Woman overall at Cheltenham Half Marathon, in a brilliant 1:35:32.
Lorna and Susan were also at Stratford, achieving 1:59:50 and 1:52:58 respectively.
Also at the Cheltenham Half were Kev (1:54:08) and Rebecca (2:12:10).
Well done to Mary in the Cheltenham 10k where she finished in 1:11:48.
