Castle Coombe Chilly Spring Duathlon - 5th March 2023
As Bourton Roadrunners’ Darren Long readies himself for international duties, he took on the Castle Coombe Chilly Spring Duathlon, which is held at the famous Castle Coombe race circuit. The duathlon comprised a 5Km run, a 20Km bike followed by a further 3Km run. The in-form Darren completed these in hot-times of 18:08, 34:20 and 11:48 respectively; with an overall time of one hour, five minutes and 49 seconds including transition times, which earned him 2nd place in the “Supervet” category.
Cambridge Half Marathon - 5th March 2023
Chocolatier and Fireman Rob Williams travelled to Cambridgeshire in search of a personal best (PB) time in the Cambridge Half Marathon. The single-loop course which took in the Midsummer Common and closed roads, passed many local landmarks, and was clearly what Rob needed, finishing in a new PB of 2:12:03; well done to Rob.
Dorney Lake Half Marathon - 5th March 2023
Another runner in search of a new PB was Bourton’s Allie Quinn, who is busily training for a marathon later this year. She selected the Dorney Lake Half Marathon. Not only based in the grounds of Eaton College, the lake was used for the 2012 London Olympic rowing events. The much-improved Allie completed the four-lap course in cold and windy conditions in very respectable 2:13:41, just 8 seconds shy of her PB; congratulations to her.
Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Half Marathon - 5th March 2023
Also with an Olympic theme, John Gibson travelled to London’s east-end for the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Half Marathon, which was celebrating its 10th anniversary. The whole race was contained within the park, passing several of the 2012 Olympic venues including the now West Ham United football stadium and running track. Not put off by the bitterly cold conditions John joined over 1700 other runners, managing to complete the 21.1Km in 1:55:40 and 3rd MV65.
Parkruns - 4th March 2023
As usual, Bourton Roadrunners were present at a number of parkrun events the previous day, including:
Chipping Norton: Jenny Evanson – 37:48.
Newport, South Wales: Jaq Underwood – 23:58 (LV55/1).
Stratford-upon-Avon: Lucy Hillary – 20:47 (3rd female overall and 1st JW11-14), Susan Hunt – 25:12 (LV55/3).
Highlights
